Guest guest
Hi Jeni, I read in another post that you are on abx, Rocephin. Connie makes a good point that the heparin flushes can make bleeding worse. You might consider discussing this with your IV nurse. Mine was wonderful and had a lot of great information. I had a thought about oral bleeding though and I wanted to share it with you as it is something you should rule out. I had a round of oral thrush when I first started the rocephin, although I had just come off oral minocycline (you wanna talk bad abx, try that one....yikes). Anyhow, I only had one or two visible spots with the typical white thrush, which did bleed when the area was swiped. The other signs were painful gums and bleeding from the skin between my cheek and gums up top. I'm not sure if it's likely you have thrush or not ('cause I'm not medically trained!), but if you think it's possible you can try two things. One is the more natural route, get good yogurt (not the stuff with the super sugary fruit with syrup mixed in) and have at least one serving a day. If you can't do milk products, you can buy acidophilus (sp?) or primadophilus (sp?) at the local health food store. The other route is the pharmacutical. There is a marvelous thing called " magic mouthwash " . Doc might not know what it is but any good dentist should. It needs to be mixed by the pharmacy, but it is *marvelous* for oral thrush. It has nystatin, lidocaine, and benadryl in it and you swish with it for a minute or two then spit it out. It works really well. Good luck! And make sure you tell your doctor that the receptionist is giving out casual and scarey medical advice. They aren't usually too fond non-medically trained staff doing that sort of thing and hopefully she will be corrected before she does this again. - > > > i was flossing the other day and my gums started draining blood. not just > casual bleeding...... > > anyway, i called the dr's office and do you guys know what the girl actually > SAID to me? > > " oh....that's a sure sign of leukemia.
