I had a hard time with carbo cravings for about a month. I was eating

pumpkin seeds like crazy during that time and then all of a sudden I didn't

want them anymore. BTW, it was after those cravings, and the pumpkin seeds

that I started losing weight.

I had some benefits right away. Others are coming slowly but they are

coming. My favorite one that I noticed last week is that my flat feet aren't

so flat anymore. I took the extra arches out of my shoes last week! The

reflexology people on the list could probably tell me that means that some

good healing is happening in the middle of my body.

Oh yeah, another good thing has to do with my skin. Before the diet, I had

started getting these dark " age spots. " They are fading. Also, I had this

relly ugly mole under my chin with a big hair growing out of it (yuck!). It

went away. Of course, the other side is that I'm getting wrinkles. I

figure, at 55, the reason I didn't have more wrinkles is that, due to

hypothyroid, I had a layer of mucin under my skin. I'd rather have wrinkles

and a healthy thyroid. I'm using my wrinkle treatment more loyally.

Gotta find the recipe for it and post it. It's basically apricot oil with

some drops of rosewood essential oil in it. Great stuff. I'll look up the

recipe.

Congratulations on starting your first challenge! I am so excited

for you and the changes you will see over the next 12 weeks. I'm in

my second challenge. I've found this group to be most inspiring and

motivating in keeping me honest with myself through my BFL

experiences. Best wishes for your success!

I started at 162 lbs and 29.34% bodyfat and ended at 145 lbs and

24.3% bodyfat. Since I started my second challenge, I am currently

at 143lbs and 23.8% bodyfat (today marks the start of week 4). Most

amazing to me, though, is that I went from being able to do only

about 20 pushups in 2 minutes to doing 48, from about 45 situps in 2

minutes to doing 80, and from running 2 miles in 20:15 to doing it in

16:54 (all required in the Army, which put me from a below average

fitness test to well above average). My before and after pics are at

briefcase./itsjustjeri

What are your stats and goals?

WELCOME!! I had a big problem with being HUNGRY all the time until I

increased my veggies. That might help for your hubby too...of course

you might have to cook those too <VBG>. Been down that path before

myself :)

Are you sure his portions are big enough? He shouldn't actually be starving.

When you're in the BFL groove, you're never really hungry and you're never full.

The portions should work out so that you start to get hungry (and you eat) every

2-3 hours. If you're hungry an hour after a meal, the portion was too small. If

you don't want anything else to eat for 4-5 hours, it was too big.

I wanted to say hello to everyone and thank you for all the

encouragement from just READING your messages! I started

BFL on Monday with my husband and I am already getting down.

He loves the workout, but does not like the food portions and is

complaining that I am trying to kill him because he is always

starving. He thinks that I am not giving him enough. I am just

sick of hearing him complain about food when all he does is

walk into the kitchen and ask what does he get to eat next. No

responsibility. Yes, first time out and I am already complaining.

I wanted to say thanks to everyone because last night I read

some suggestions and found some recipes.... that is going to

make this much easier!

Thanks again!

We added some veggies today that we had not done before. I

am not sure about portion sizes since he is 6' and 220 while I

am ... short. :-) maybe I am starving him. Are you as hungry

now... I mean do you think your stomach actually shrinks?? I am

not sure if that is myth or what.

Thanks for your encouragement... now to hunt up some

vegtables he will eat! :-)

Is the fist the size of the portion... He wants to wad up as much

bread as will make the size of his fist and say that it was a

portion then do the same for turkey to make his meal. I am not

sure I am getting it right. Today I made sure his portions were a

bit larger and he is doing better. I shouldn't complain. He is

diabetic and this is a big (and good) switch for him and I. :-)

I'm not as hungry now, but I've also added veggies, salad, udos and

changed my carb choices to things like oatmeal, cream of rice,

potato, etc. most of the time. Seems to have more sticking power for

me. I was also used to nibbling all day long and it may have been

that I was just " used to " eating vs. " truly " being hungry.

As long as his portions as fist/palm, he should be getting a good

amount of calories.

Thanks... He is helping in the kitchen more and I think you are

on to something about the type of carbs we eat. The wheat

tortilla just does not hold me until the next meal, but oatmeal has

some staying power!

Thanks again!

Hi Dani,

You and your hubbie will do great! I definitely agree with Colleen -

your carb choices are pretty important when you want something that

will be filling, yet not weigh you down like a ton of bricks. I do

really like the La Tortilla low-carb ww tortillas, but sometimes ya

just need something with a little more " oomph " Oatmeal, brown rice,

barley or beans seem to be really filling and filled with good fiber.

Keep us posted!

Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know a bit

about me. My name is Lani and my husband and I are doing the BFL

Challenge together. We started today. We have already read the whole

book, got the pics done (ugh!), and now we are half through day one.

I am shooting to lose thirty pounds of fat and gain muscle to look

toned. We have stuck to the foods in the book and plan to continue

doing so and we are working out at the hospital here. I am now

looking for recipes for the authorized foods. Well, just thought I

would say hi!

Busters on Wed. I'm 39, live in Houston with dh and 2 daughters ages 3 & 6.

" Hello " is just fine. :)

Gee, this is the weight I was at until 2 weeks ago (and almost hit again

during last week's vacation). My " goal " right now is to finally get back

under 250, a spot I was at a few years ago when a dreaded plateau hit and I

kept going off-plan.

> I just started my program yesterday

Which one are you using, one of 's or something else. People here are

doing everything from the FoodMover to Weight Watchers, from Atkins or

McDougall, and everything in-between, but *most* seem to be using one of

's plans, either the Deal A Meal or FoodMover, sometimes

*with* other plans.

Hi Shelli!

I drink the shakes, Myoplex Lite. My fave flavor is Chocolate.

Everyone has a different flavor they like over the others, those that

drink them, that is. Some feel " real food " is the way to go. The

shakes and bars are good if you are on the go, stressed for time. I

find the shakes refreshing, as well as quick. I don't have them

everyday, because I really like a protein powder (EAS Precision

Protein) shake made with a peach, a couple ice cubes, 8 oz. water,

and a handfull of frozen raspberries. Yummy!! The Myoplex Lite bars

have a lot of sugar, so I opt for the Myoplex Carb Sense bars and an

apple and save the Myoplex Lite bars for occasional eats. Everyone

has their favorite bar too :).

Feel free to ask loads of questions!

Check out the FAQ for this group (you'll see it on the main page),

and check out the Files folder too. Give Hussman's site a look-see

too. http://www.hussman.org/fitness/

Check out Mrs. Bishwits Kitchen for recipe ideas

http://www.mrsbishwitskitchen.com/

Also, the Body For Life website has some recipes posted as well.

Welcome!! And, you can do it! :)

Shelli,

I don't drink the shakes- I save shakes and meal replacement bars for

emergencies. I think whole food fills me up more and I like eating

as " natural " as I can. It is up to you.

Can you be more specific about your confusion? For every meal, 6

times a day, pick one protein from the list in the book and one carb

from the list. Add a vegetable as often as you can, no less than

twice a day. I eat a few things that are not on the list- pork

tenderloin, all fruits. I also use condiments like salsa, all

mustards, tomato sauce, BBQ sauce (those last two I use sparingly and

am careful on the brands I use).

Let us know what you need clarification on!

Hi, Laurie; Thea here.

I used to be on variously, 150 mg of Zoloft, 30 mg of Paxil, and now I'm on

10 mg of Lexapro.

Never took Effexor or Welbutrin, as I have had seizure disorders in my

history, and have had bad-ass panic attacks from hell.

The Lexapro is the only thing that ever helped with that, and I'm only on 10

mg of it. I think it's amazing stuff.

I've had no side effects, I'm awake and alert and motivated during the day,

and sleep fabulously at night.

I'm now doing things I was too afraid or too wacked out to do. I used to be

afraid of being alone or walking outside alone because of the panic attacks.

Now, I go walking every day and am learning to navigate outdoors in

preparation for getting a guide dog.

Lex is amazing.

Thanks for the good wishes and offer of support - I know there will

come a time when the going will get very tough. Yesterday went very

well - it's funny how a mindset is all there really is between

happiness and unhappiness. I didn't have the

traditional " birthday " - no dinner out, no dessert, etc. I DID get

a new scale, a serenade from my sons' daycare cohort (complete with

flowers), and a wonderful homecooked meal. And it was the best

birthday I've had in a long time! :)
