My gums aren't sore, just swollen. I've had one root canal for a tooth I

knocked out when I was 13. Oh well, as long as my teeth don't start to fall out

along with my hair, I'll be okay!

I guess you can have any possible reaction to meds - its just that I

have not heard of this one. Are your gums sore as well?

I recently went to the dentist and he said my gums were very swollen.

My teeth were clean, but gums swollen. He was wondering if it was the

medicine I was on (cytomel and synthroid) or maybe from

hypothyroidism. My doctor wasn't sure. I was wondering if any of you

have had similar trouble or if swollen gums are from something else.

Hypothyroidism expresses itself in sooooo many way, I wasn't sure if

it was causing this also!

I think you need more meds and are undertreated, since gum problems can be

a hypo symptom. You might have more symptoms that you are unaware of.

I really don't know, b/c I always believed the docs that I was " normal " .

Just didn't know enough to ask for test results. But when I began to ask

for the results, the TSH was very low, and of course free T tests were not

done. Now I think it is the rare doc who is competent to treat thyroid

disorders.

Higher than normal cholesterol levels is how they used

to diagnose low thyroid function. Before embarking on

a treatment for the cholesterol, I would take a closer

look at the thyroid, adrenals, estrogen and others. Go

ahead and post your thyroid function tests results on

here. We'd be glad to help you understand what they

mean and where to look next.

Root canal sites are too often a site for infections.

If you have mercury in your mouth, then the problem is

compounded exponentialy.

I was looking over my paper I received from the doctor at my last visit in July.

The only results it shows on there is my cholesterol levels and triglycerides. I

know he does the test for antibodies, ANA isn't it, and he always tells me that

comes back positive. He says that is due to the Lupus. My cholesterol is always

up, which is why I am now on Lipitor. We are baffled at why my cholesterol is

high, as I really do try to watch it. We just decided that I inherited it, as my

mother has it. I don't know anymore. I go back on Dec. 2nd and am beginning if

maybe I now need to ask more questions.

Hi ,

yes I think it is time to ask a lot more questions.......I am sorry that

you have been put onto lipitor when high cholesterol is one of the

symptoms of low thyroid or possibly low production of a number of

hormones - did you know that hormones (not sure if all of them are) are

made from cholesterol? So it makes sense that if we have too much

cholesterol in our system the first thing to look at is if we are low on

hormones - it isn't rocket science is it?

I had exactly the same problem only I knew it couldn't be my diet as I

was nearly vegetarian and ate a very healthy diet - so I started

researching and asking questions and as soon as I had a good high dose

of thyroid hormone my cholesterol came right back down to normal in

about 5 weeks!

Now in terms of dealing with your depression while you wait for the dx

(t3 is what helped my depression) I used to force myself to go for a

walk every morning even if I was exhausted - just as long as I could

manage and take deep breaths - it won't cure the depression but it will

definitely help you get through the day. Also don't drink alcohol as it

can make you more depressed and take high doses of B vitamins-

particularly B12 - if you are interested I can recommend some other

vitamins to help with depression. Take St 's Wort as well - 900mcg

morning and evening. AS I said all of this will help you to stay sane

while you sort out what to do next. IT is really important to stay sane

when dealing with less than helpful doctors as you have to have the

strength and clarity to put your foot down when necessary - or just walk

out!

Try not to exercise too much - give yourself a break and just do the

walking and breathing - if your adrenals are stressed the exercise will

do more harm than good anyway,

just ask anything you need to know - we've all been through it all

before and are happy to help.

regards,

Kerry

Hi Kerry,

I am not taking anything since menopause. I was on HRT for a while, but

It's bad enough that I am exercising and eating right, and still gaining

Hi,

Thank you so much, Kerry! I do appreciate that. I was looking on the internet

last night and after hearing you all talk about adrenals, since I am so

unfamiliar with that I decided to look it up. I got into adrenal stress and

found that I have many of the symptoms of that. Now I am so confused. At home I

have my work order for my labwork that is to be done in late Nov. I am going to

get it and let you all know what blood tests I am scheduled for and see if you

all think there are more that I should have done that are not on there. Maybe

that will be a start.

Thanks Karla! I already know about the toxic silver fillings! :) We live in the Northwest (near Portland Oregon).

dentist

Remember to try to get your kids white fillings, as the silver ones are mercury toxins.

OFF TOPIC to Janna. Try to help your child keep their teeth as long as you can, with caps and bridges or what ever it takes. If they are so bad, and do need implants..search around for some price comparisons. If you are having to pay full price for implants, since they are usually not covered by primary insurance, even in an accident....shop around.

I dont know what part of the coutnry you are in, but Check to find your nearest dental school. Might be much cheaper and work should be well-done, as it is overseered and double checked by experts in the fields. And they wont be looking for a big fast buck, like many dentist are. Good Luck.

FYI---

In the most recent issue of The Human Ecologist (Number 117, Spring 2008) there are three small articles about the "white" fillings--otherwise known as "composites," that you might find interesting. You will find them on page 11. Unfortunately, this is not a publication that has really wide and public circulation; nor do they have an on-line edition (very unfortunate). They also have extremely strict guidelines about reprinting articles. This is really not a "public domain" publication, the way newspapers, most magazines and web publications are. They are extremely hard-nosed about this. I know, from personal experience. I don't need any more challenges than I already have, so I will hope and pray that you can access this publication. The three articles can be found on page 11, under the heading of Dental Notes. The titles of the three articles are as follows: "Composite ('white') filling durability; "Toxic materials leached from dental composite materials" and "Reducing cellular toxicity of dental composite materials."

+++Hi Kathy. That's good you are using natural things to clean your teeth.

Yes, you can skip it all! We never got our teeth cleaned when we were growing

up, and I didn't even have a toothbrush for many years. I got my first cavity

when I was 14 years old. All of the primitive groups Dr. Weston Price studied

in the 1920s and 30s didn't get their teeth cleaned, nor use toothbrushes, and

many groups has no or very little cavities. He examined their teeth, and took

many photos of their faces and teeth - this is in his book Nutrition and

Physical Degeneration.

The best, Bee

Hi Kathy

I was doing that. Going to dentist every 6 months. Haven't been in 2 years and

my daughters either. In fact we just got a letter from our dentist a few weeks

ago reminding us that time passes quickly and we haven't seen him in 2 years.

Don't expect to go any time soon unless there be an emergency.

I had 4 fillings replaced, were mercury, now white. The dentist said they were cracking. I did not stop taking LDN when I had the fillings replaced back in December. I had a bunch of lidocaine to numb me up and that was all.

Not sure what you are being treated for, but if you might have other issues with your teeth perhaps you should wait? YOur call.

What caused you to see the dentists and oral surgeon? I've had xrays and

cleanings routinely for the last several years, and today was told that I have a

large cavity under a bridge, another cavity under a veneer, and another bridge

that is cracked. No one mentioned any of these before. I started having

traveling tooth pain 2 months ago. I've had joint swelling, tinnitus, chills,

etc longer but never tooth pain. I have had Lyme for 12 years and am starting

over looking for a LLMD.. Can Lyme cause this much tooth damage so quickly?

Thanks.

I am not sure but my daughter gets cavities so fast - she even had four teeth

pulled due to having infection between the baby teeth and adult teeth - one

tooth took more then a year to come in..........so they pulled them way

early.......infection between the teeth............now how can that happen?

weird.........
