Do I know about living in pain. I'm also allergic to Skelaxin.

I have to take Benadryl when I took it. For the nerve

condition, you might want to ask about getting either

Neurontin or Topomax to help quiet down the " random

impulses. "

Do talk to your doctor about your pain. Due to the business

I'm in, I get a lot of business cards, and I've found a way to

recycle them. I write down a list of all the things I want

to discuss with my doc on one or two and when I see my

doc, I give him the card, he goes down the list and I

get all my answers. It helps, especially when I get shaken

by some of the answers.

Lexi,

I'm so sorry that you're in pain. Please ask your doctor for pain meds -

now! In the meantime, try Alleve (Naproxen sodium). Are you saying you're

allergic to medications, things in the environment, foods? I'm allergic to

countless things, & my poor kids inherited it. Unless your allergen causes

anaphylactic shock, think about making the best of it. Trying to avoid the

allergen will make you hypersensitive when you next encounter it. I decided

to just live my life & not avoid my many allergens. I've also talked my

philosophy over with my kids, & helped them to understand my choice. When

things get truly horrible, I visit my doctor & get prescriptions to ease

matters. Plus I carry benadryl & epinephrine for my kids & me everywhere.

I've lived with pain since childhood. Nowadays, my orthopedist & PT can

hardly believe how little pain med I take, considering my back trauma.

Daily exercise, pushing through the pain, keeping your mind focused on

positive things helps tremendously.

Personally, I don't think that God has anything to do with whether or not I

feel pain. My back injury was my own fault. I was praying so hard when the

Ski Patrol skied me down to the ambulance. I'm so thankful that God let me

not be paralyzed, that's why I try not to feel self-pity & frustration. It'

s hard, I know, but you still have your hearing, your sight, your memory,

your mobility, you're able to sit upright & use a keyboard to connect to

this support group. Lexi, keep going!

I'll keep you in my prayers, sonia

Hi Valeri

I too found that some of the exercises were a bit painful to begin

with, because my muscles were protesting, but I kept on going ( and

still am) and now at almost 5 months post op I am walking without a

limp and certainly better than I was before the op!

Good luck

Hi Valeri,

What is the hamstring ? My Dr said my leg was longer then the one I didn't have operations on . He never to me anything about my shoes . I have Arthritis in both of my feet . Well I wish you luck .I was wondering when you walk up and down the stairs do you use your good foot first when you go up the stairs?

juneflower60 or Susie

Went to doctor yesterday for nerve pain along the hamstring. It is slowing down my walking progress. He gave me some stretching exercises that hurt. But must do them. Also determined right leg, the replacment side is one centimeter longer then the left. Suggested I get a lift for my left shoe. Valeri

Quick reply because dinner awaits. There is medicine that works on nerve

pain, not everyone can handle it. But it worked for me when I had similar

pain. As far as walking, early on and still some days 5 years later, I

use a cane. It got me around NYC, I outwalked the non back people :)

Also do you wear any kind of brace ? I do almost all the time and it's

been 5 years. Dave

Hey

Really fast are you on a nerve med called Neurontin??? Let me know if you are I am not sure when you sent this email I have been down and out for several days. My disc shattered and the fragments were embedded in my nerves for years before I lost all feeling in my legs and thought was paralized. They saif that when the nerve tries to heal itself it will go through some intense and wierd pain. It takes time to heal itself all depending how long the matter was stuck in there mine was so long they are not sure if it will ever go back to normal. Well I have really good days and really bad ones they just increase my dose of neurontin during those times ease the iritability I am going through. The burning you are explaining does it feel like someone has lit matches and are holding them real close to you? that is what I feel atleast 2 or 3 days in a weeks on a good week that is. I dont know of anything else but the neurontin it is made for epeleptics but for some reason it

works with the nerves in our body and helps me. I hope that you have gotten some relief I know what you are talking about when you say you feel like a toddler stumbling over your own 2 feet I have to be very aware of how I walk because I tend to drag my right foot ALOT because of my nerve damage so i literally have to be consious about lifting my legs up high enough that my foot takes a step. I hope this helps a little and the best of luck to you in getting in tough with a doc that can help you.

so I'm on a pain killer and a muscle relaxer (I know i cant say names) but i have this intense burning pain in my left leg. I'm assumings its nerve pain, when they went in on my second operation, they found disk matter inbedded in my nerve and tried picking it out. Since then I have numbness in leg and foot. But since 3 weeks ago this "nerve pain" is getting worse. I tried to call Ortho Doc and of course he is outta town, and no one to cover him. Yay doctors!! (sorry dry sense of humor) When I told his nurse what is going on shes said that he wont give me anythign else. What can i do in the mean time for pain control? I did put a call into my family doc who knows what has been going on. And i'm hoping to get in today. And of course I'm so depressed. This weekend we went out for breakfast and to a little petting zoo and then to Jelly Belly. All I did was trip and i could feel the pressure in my back. I'm sick

of going out in public, I feel like a toddler does when they are first learning to walk. I'm just so clumsy and im sick of the pain. im sorry to have rambled i just feel so lost in this whole process. Thursday i go to PT for the TENS unit, I'm so hoping for pain relief . I hope everyone else is ok. Don't hear from all of you. Talking on here makes me feel almost normal.

No one ever gave me instruction in it. I've switched hands to whatever

worked best at the time. When we went to NYC my daughter gave me the

nickname the Cane Nazi because I was swinging it around like Charly

Chaplain and almost hit several people. It's a good nervous Tic Toy :) Dave
