Guest guest
Dora - You wrote about an antibiotic challenge before testing for Lyme - that really doesn't sound right to me. I agree that taking the antibiotic before the test could skew the test. I really think you need to see someone more knowledgeable about Lyme. Too many docs and health care professionals know nothing - or worse yet - very little about lyme. Do you have a Lyme Literate Medical Doc (LLMD) near you? You probably should find one to send the test to the right lab and who can interpret the results correctly. I have chronic lyme and don't wish a mis-diagnosis and/or delaying the diagnosis on anyone, believe me, it would change you life. Guest guest
Gee, there is apparently one in Austin - and that is who wants to do the " antibiotic challenge " . When she does the test, to confirm the diagnosis she has already made without seeing me. Her own and another list member's (txlyme list) explanation on the list correspond with your interpretation of what she means. I am very suspicious of her; for one thing, she explained via e-mail in answer to my detailed question about how to tell lyme disease from a spider bite, that I have advanced lyme disease and had it long before the toxins released by whatever bit me caused the symptoms to break out! How she knows this, she explained, is that I have Menieres' Disease. Menieres' Disease is just unrecognized lyme disease, atleast in her experience. This is pure quackery. I said something about this on that list, being careful of how I said what and leaving out the term quack, and all hell broke loose. She has some very loyal followers on that list. When I saw, Re: [ ] Dora , I wondered what I said that is controversial on this list! Thanks! I really don't intend to see her. Her name, for the benefit of anyone in the Austin area, is Ginger Savely. I honestly thought this challenge was her own quixotic procedure. Anyone know of any documentation on it? The way I understand it, there is just one other lyme literate doctor in Austin; a neurologist. If anyone knows of anyone else, I'd sure appreciate knowing of it! Yours, Dora . Guest guest
Hi Dora - Welcome! Sorry you have to enter the world of Hypothyroidism :-( - but you've come to a good place to learn about this disease! Sometimes finding out what is wrong with you can be a big relief though... Congratulations on quiting smoking! That is wonderful! Do you know what your docter meant by " self medicating with nicotine " ? I'm just curious because my sister in law is hypothyroid and smokes. I'm currently on Levoyxyl 112 - started at 50 mcg last July and gradually worked up to 112. I see some improvement - but I'm not near where I should be.....Many people do much better on Natural Thyroid Hormone - which I would like to try very soon. What a lot of folks will probably tell you is to get copies of all your bloodwork....I'm just learning myself & I'm sure many of the list members will have more advice than I can give you. take care hang in there & I hope you start feeling better, in NH > > From: " Dora Medina " <zenned1@...> > Date: 2004/02/26 Thu AM 02:56:30 EST > hypothyroidism > Subject: hello and intro > >
Guest guest
Nicotine is a stimulant. My mother has smoked for that reason since she was 11. My father as well. And they both are hypothyroid. Interesting huh? My mother has always claimed that it gives her the " mental " energy she needs to think her way through the day. It doesnt provide her a physical boost however. She uses coffee for that. Since beginning treatment for her thyroid condition, she has lost the craving for cigarettes. This is terrific side effect. chriss
Guest guest
Hi Dora: Usu. when I wake up tired, it does not improve. A day like today, I'll be ready for bed by the time 5:00 comes around. (I've even been too tired to eat!) I'm even having problems at work today doing things I've been doing for 30 years and, now, my nose is bleeding again. Don't know if the two things are related or not. Just curious - do you feel tired all day, or is there a time when you get a little energy? I start feeling awake about the time I should wind down - 4 or 5 in the afternoon. I always wake up exhausted. I'm trying to figure out why that may be, and am looking at diet, supplements, etc to see if I can find any correlation anywhere.
