Within five days my years'-long bone-wearying fatigue disappeared. However, I am combining LDN with the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), and for me -- and from what I've seen, being on list with hundreds of people with Crohn's -- I definitely need to combine the two. A regular high-carb North American diet is deadly for the vast majority of Crohn's sufferers. Not having yeast is certainly not the only issue. Thinking is -- and it's been confirmed for many thousands of us -- that Crohn's sufferers simply can't properly digest sugars and starches. So when you cut those out (except for fruit and a little honey, as necessary) you quit feeding bad bacteria in your gut (which isn't necessarily all or even mostly Candida yeast) and your gut starts to heal; the LDN accelerates the process. For more than a year now I've been taking LDN and have also been on the SCD and feel better than I have for most of my life. The diet calls for eating as much of the following as works for you: meat (except sugar-cured/added deli meats, including ham, etc.) eggs, aged cheese (which is pretty much lactose free -- I also am lactose intolerant), veggies (except starchy things like potatoes, sweet potatoes and a few other root vegetables), fruit and nuts; and part of the diet is making your own yogurt (the higher cream content the better), fermented 24 hours so that all the lactose gets eaten up in the fermenting process. The LDN, not incidentally, has also greatly reduced my asthma and allergy symptoms, as well as helping with the Crohn's and preventing the normal high number of colds, other infections, etc., that I used to get routinely. That said, I'm quite sure that with LDN without the diet would I would not be feeling the extent of positive effects I'm experiencing. n ______________________________ A funny, touching gift book for cat lovers. Guest guest
How much did you start on? Maureen Christensen wrote: I started taking LDN last Tuesday evening (4/20) for Crohn's disease. I was wondering when I should expect results. I feel like I have been taking a sugar pill. I don't feel worse but I don't feel better either. I have been having some back pain (started Tuesday during the day) and have been taking Advil and Aleve for it. I know people have suggested a change in diet but I believe that those who have been a part of the Penn State clinical trials did not change their diet and still had a success with the drug. I also spoke with my GI doctor and she said that during my recent colonoscopy in March she did look for yeast and did not find any so she didn't think that would be an issue for me. I don't feel any worse, which I think might indicate yeast, but I feel exactly the same. I even bought an over-the-counter sleep aid in case I couldn't sleep and that has not been a problem either. I don't know if I'm expecting too much too soon but I was really hoping this would work for me. Some have even said they lost weight on LDN (anti-craving drug) but I don't feel myself less hungry and losing weight has always been a problem for me. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Guest guest
I forgot to mention in my initial email that I am taking 4.5 mg/night. I started taking LDN last Tuesday evening (4/20) for Crohn's disease. Guest guest
Ah, OK. Just wondered if you'd only started at 1.5mg. Most people notice something eg. vivid dreams or slightly changed sleeping patterns the first few days which lets them know it is in their system. Where are you getting it from and is there anything else you're taking that could be working against it?
