I work for an LLMD & we do give bicillin injections in the office. Even if

it is an insurance company we participate with, they will not cover it & the

patient has to pay up front. As far as Medicare goes, we have to send

patients to a local hospital to the outpatient infusion department for the

administration of the injection.

Sometimes your prescription plan will pay for the injections themselves &

then you just need a qualified person to administer it (if that's ok with the

Dr.) or come to the Dr.'s office for him/her to do it for a fee.

Patients have done well on the injections either once or twice a week;

sometimes orals are given along with them depending on the patient's

situation.

Hope that helps...good luck! :)

Dear Deb,

I added Rx coverage to my medigap insurance. It starts June 1st. I

anticipate they will pay for the bicillin.

I was wondering about the coverage just for the administration of the

injections. LLMD is in another state. Was going to check with my primary

care doc, haven't seen him in over a year, but is usually very helpful.

Twist to the story, he's the one who did ELISA test 3 years ago and said i

did not have lyme because there was no rash around the bites. I'm a little

nervous @ the next time we speak. Don't know if he's become more educated

about the subject since then.

thanks for your help,

bluesky
