Guest guest
Hi, I joined this group today. I was diagnosed with Severe Uclerative Pancolitis almost 2 years ago. Here is my history so far: DX Sept.2008 aged 45. Moderate / Severe pan UC; Prednisolone tapering from 80 to 20 mg; Asacol. This worked well, but was stopped after hepatitis. Azathioprine 100 mg from November 2008. Prednislone tapered off. Surgery hinted at. Azathioprine increased to 150 mg 21.01.09 with predifoam included for 2 weeks. February 2009. Colonoscopy indicates mild UC, left side only. May 2009 no UC symptoms except joint ache. Azathioprine stopped against NHS advice. LDN 3.5 mg from 30.5.09. 4.5 mg from 30.6.09. Probiotics, Aloe Vera, zinc, copper, peppermint oil, a low GI diet, high roughage and a protein supplement since DX. Doing well April 2010. No symptoms for 11 months.. I chose to go against NHS advice because I was so concerned about the long-term effects of azathioprine, eg increased cancer risk, lowered resistance to common infections. Also my hair began to fall out. I was encouraged by the effectiveness of LDN in many crohns cases and by indications that it could actually increase my general well-being. Well here I am 11 months into LDN with no symptoms whatsoever. I get a colonoscopy in January 2011. I'm hoping that no symptoms = a healthy colon.
