Guest guest
Judy, what an experience....some one of the fibro board made a comment once that Tramadol was not a narcotic pain med. I had considered it but never went further than just a thought. Hope you are feeling better. joyce [low dose naltrexone] Crazy weekend with Tramadol I sent an email about this earlier today and it never did show up, but just in case it was a problem and it eventually shows up I apologize in advance. Anyway, I woke up with a sore throat on Thursday am. I didn't feel too good the rest of the day, but I was okay. The same thing on Friday and Saturday although my voice was a little scratchy. Then I woke up early Sunday and my throat was really bad. I also had a severe earache and a temp of 100. My throat was so sore and swollen I could barely swallow. I also lost my voice. I told my husband he better take me to the Emergency Room, even though I swore I'd never go again unless I was dying. Well, I felt like I was close to it, because of the difficulty of breathing. Actually I think I did pass out in the car as my husband yelled at me that I better relax or I'd start hyperventilating. I did get a doctor that was thorough and tried to help me. I was tested for Strep and influenza and both came back negative. I told the doctor it felt like Strep to me and my throat hurt as bad as it did after I had my tonsils out. They also took an x-ray of my neck but she said it was okay and probably just swollen glands. She asked if she could get me something for pain and I told her about LDN and how well it was working for me. I told her I couldn't take any narcotic, but a Tylenol would be okay. A little later a nurse came in and put some drops in my ear to numb it and that did help a little. She also gave me a pill. Then they sent me home with prescriptions for ear drops, antibiotics and Tramadol. What!!! Tramadol. And after I explained that I couldn't take any because of the LDN. And yes, I had already taken a Tramadol and didn't realize that's what I was given. Well, by then it was 2 pm anyway and there wasn't anything I could do, so I thought I'd see how things went. Well, the Tramadol did help take the edge off the pain, but I did take some Tylenol when I got home and went to bed and slept three hours. I didn't take my dose of LDN then before bedtime, but I will take it tonight. I just though it was interesting that the doctor didn't consider that Tramadol was a narcotic. I also didn't have any problem taking it and I would have to say I could feel it working a little more than I thought it would. Guest guest
In the Ultram/tramadol product info " Tramadol-induced analgesia is only partially antagonized by the opiate antagonist naloxone in several animal tests. " So maybe it works on slightly different receptors? Interesting though. Sorry about your pain. Feel better soon. Guest guest
I've had some others email me off list and they are saying their doctors have told them that Tramadol isn't considered a true narcotic. I, too, was surprised to learn this, but I found it did give me some relief and didn't interfere with LDN. Now I know that there is something out there that we can take if needed that is stronger that something over the counter. I've read emails in the past where people were worried about this and this news is reassuring.
