Thanks, my-stitches, for seconding my understanding re LDN improving thyroid function in those with thyroid antibodies, (Hashi), and not those without thyroid antibodies...ordinary hypoT.

Concern!!! Some of these posts give the impression that if thyroid improves, then LDN needs to be cut back. That is not the deal. If the thyroid improves on LDN, the thyroid meds are to be cut back, or possibly eliminated. NOT LDN.

Barbara, I have hashimotos - meaning I do have thyroid antibodies. I've been on

LDN 4.5 mg for a year and three months and have not been able to decrease my

thyroid med. Antibodies destroy thyroid tissue. If someone has had Hashi's a

long time before finding LDN their thyroid may be too damaged to work again. I

had hashis over 7 years before I heard of LDN; it was too late to save my

thyroid function.

OTOH, LDN -did- get rid of my nodules. I had a multi-nodular goiter with large

nodules, and CT scans done in 2002 and late 2007, show there was no change

between those 5 years. I started LDN in 2008 and a new CT scan 6 months after

starting LDN, showed all nodules were gone. So LDN has done something good for

my thyroid.

In July of 2009, I still had a goiter; I started taking iodine supplementation

in July, 2009 (Iodoral 50 mg). A few days ago I went to a neurologist; during

the exam I asked him to check my goiter as I hadn't had it checked since I

started iodine. He couldn't find a goiter. So I believe the iodine

supplementation eliminated the goiter.

I also agree with you that if LDN does cause hyperthyroid symptoms for those on

thyroid med, decreasing the thyroid med is the proper response, not decreasing

the LDN which is helping the thyroid.
