Guest guest
My husband drinks a glass of wine every evening with dinner and takes his LDN a couple of hours later - no problem at all. The maximum he`s had is two glasses so I cant vouch for how it goes after that! Probably best not to overdo it I suspect.
Guest guest
Having one to two glasses of dry red wine, a couple of days a week, sporadically is fine for me. I do not feel as well when I drink white or sweeter wines. Guest guest
I've found that one drink occasionally has no effect. Even two might be okay. I've heard however that it can make you pretty sick if you drink until you're drunk. I began LDN three weeks ago and have not drank any alcohol since as i have found conflicting information about this online. I am not a big drinker, but i do like to drink every so often, and would like to be able to drink again in the future (alcohol doesn't seem to effect my crohns). Has anyone on LDN tried drinking alcohol? If so, what were your experiences or reactions to the alcohol? Thanks!!
Guest guest
In regard to alcohol consumption concurrent with taking LDN, Dr. Skip Lenz, a Florida pharmacist, has this to say: One of the uses of LDN is to help alcoholics get off the juice. You should never use alcohol and LDN at the same time. Now, there will be folks who say they always have had a drink with no problems; on the other side of the coin, I know of several dozen cases where the patient has had projectile vomiting. > > Hi, > > I'm just writing to seek others advice/experiences with LDN and alcohol. Guest guest
I recently started LDN three weeks ago. When my doctor prescribed it he strictly warned me not to drink alcohol. He told me it would give me the worst hangover I ever had. Guest guest
I'm one of many on here who has the occasional wine with no problems, though think LDN has reduced my (never big) desire for alcohol. Cheers, (LDN 6+ years) Anita Meyers wrote: I recently started LDN three weeks ago. Guest guest
I emailed Dr Skip Lenz asking him about alcohol and LDN. He replied saying " NEVER drink alcohol while on LDN " . I also asked if it was ok to skip a dose of LDN on the night that i intend to drink and he responded saying " no! " it's weird... i'm not sure if i trust his advice. I would also like to hear if anyone has personally had a bad response to either drinking alcohol or skipping a dose of LDN. Monnie > > I have seen this asked many times on this list and the quote below is the first time that I have seen this response. Even in the tests with the high doses prescribed for alcoholism, projectile vomiting is not listed as a side effect. Are you sure that he is not talking about Anabuse? Every message that I have seen from LDN users on this list answer the same that I would . . . " I have occasionally had a drink or two and have seen no effect from it combined with LDN. Guest guest
Gotta go with Skip on this one, Naltrexone is a drug for opiate and alcohol addiction, doesn't make sense to me to drink when on LDN....... Celia
Guest guest
I've been on LDN for 2 years with great results. I drink a few glasses of wine almost every day. On weekends I've had as many as 4 drinks of hard liquor. Never had a problem. I'm curious as to what he is basing his statement on. > > > > I have seen this asked many times on this list and the quote below is the first time that I have seen this response. Guest guest
In the 50 mg dose, that is correct. But most of us are taking a much smaller dose for another purpose entirely. > > Gotta go with Skip on this one, Naltrexone is a drug for opiate and alcohol addiction, doesn't make sense to me to drink when on LDN....... > Celia >
Guest guest
If you met skip you would know that he is a good guy, and is honest, since he is a list member, it would be more beneficial if you asked him for his reasoning directly, he would not say don't drink for the hell of it or the liabilty issues, he would I am sure say don't drink because it is contra indicated with Naltrexone, whatever dose you are on..... Guest guest
Sorry, I forgot to add the Sinclair Method web address. http://ezinearticles.com/?Alcohol,-Naltrexone,-and-the-Magic-of-Pharmacological-Extinction & id=244119I don't drink, smoke, do drugs or use vulgar language like Art does : ) I really don't need to know if a person can drink alcohol & use LDN. I just found the question interesting since my doctor told me definitely not to drink. The reason I brought up the Sinclair Method is that Dr. Sinclair tells his alcoholic patients to take 50 mg of Naltrexone one hour before they drink alcohol... every time they drink. I'm thinking this isn't making them feel awful or no one would stick to the program. It just lessens the effect of the alcohol. So maybe drinking might not give you an awful headache or make you vomit. Still, I can't see how alcohol could help anyone who is fighting a chronic debilitating disease. But, to each his own.Anita
