I would like to know more about this. My daughter who was born with Lymes,

undiagnosed until age 12. We went to the beach in Mass. when she was six. At

dawn we were chased off the beach by a zillion black flies. The following

morning she woke up saying she could not breath, her temp was 105. She was

hospitalized for six days, having breathing spells, chest pains and a huge

fever. They never diagnosed her.

I was actually on Assateague Island National Seashore,Wild ponies roam the

beaches and dunes of , a 37-mile long barrier island south of Ocean City.

My friends live in Berlin and Ocean City, there are two herds of horses on

Assateague Island separated by a fence at the land-Virginia Border in

the middle of the Island.........They do a pony swim every year in July

swimming across the bay between Assateague Island and the Town of

Chincoteague on Chincoteague Island, ..........a tradition that has gone on

for many years. So the two place we are talking about are different, but

are close to one another owned by different states but look very similar,

and are walked on by the very same little horses.... It is a gorgeous area,

and it is fun to see the ponies, but they carry that deadly tick

I am certain that is were I was bitten, I was on the beach that night to

watch the sun set, as night fell on us as you mentioned the mosquitoes came

upon us, and we scampered to our car, to clear the beach as we were

attacked. I saw a tick that day on the beach, and mentioned it to others

as I got rid of it..........was shocked that there would be one on the

beach, but then figured, why not........it had to be the ponies. That

night, I was too tired to shower, and I had showered mid-day..........when

morning came, low and behold, while showering I found one nicely attached to

my upper right shoulder........it fed all night long I'm sure.

Sent for testing.........positive for lyme..........Called

land.......they told me they have had an increased number of lyme cases

including overlapping of lyme with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever!

So, what was a fun enjoyable reunion with friends, that I haven't been able

to see, because I have been too ill to be able to see them in the

past.........has turned to misery.........so hard to believe.

What else roams those beaches in Mass.?

Conniek nwnj

We celebrated a wedding anniversary on the beach, catered and all. My Brother,

his wife and four out of five of his children contacted Lymes. We do not know

for sure, yet we strongly suspect it was on the beach in Essex, MA.

Bernadette...

I sent her an email when I sent you hers...

What does she need to from me - was she mad that I referred you to her?

I only ask, because I am going to be busy & it will be hard to get her via phone

until tomorrow or the next day - depending upon how classes go...

I don't want to be the hold up for your getting tested. Was she willing to do

it?

Besides, what should I tell her -- I don't know you personally - is there

anything in particular that you need me to tell her? I want to make sure that

she will definately test you...

Let me know -- copy your reply to my work address - in case I get time today to

call

,

She seemed more skeptical or cautious about the legalities of natural treatment.

In a way that I didn't blame her. SO many people are considered quacks that do

these things. I sent her your e-mail. Perhaps you can drop her a quick call,

saying we met over the web, my kids go to Dr. in CT, for treatment of

Lymes and I go to Dr. Bellovin in Portsmouth, also state that one of my children

is Mentally Retarded from Bartonella, and I am really eager to get help for my

children.

She was really nice and seemed informative. I really appreciate the

recommendation.

Dear Marie,

Yes, Connie thought land, but meant Chincoteague Island, VA.

I was with a girlfriend on 9/11/01, vacationing at Chincoteague. Of course,

because of the date, I'll never forget where I was.

The friend I went with has/had Bell's palsy, but does not believe herself to

have Lyme or any other Tick-bourne disease. She has been vacationing twice

a year for many years at Chincoteague. Time will tell.

I wasn't even aware of the dangers of horseback riding, it never even

occurred to me that not only deer, but also horses & cows & outdoor dogs &

cats, etc, can have fleas & ticks.

So, no more gorgeous walks in the woods for me, and no more horseback riding.

Just too risky for me. Not worth more exposures to tick bites.

Lyme has changed my whole world.

It will be interesting to see, over the years, just how big/widespread a

problem it really is.

Hugs to all,

a

I'm not sure what the above correction was about, .......but if it is in

reference to where I was bitten by the tick, I was in land on

Assateague State Park Beach.

I was not on Chincoteague in Virginia. The ponies are in both places

however, so I'm sure the ticks are everywhere............you aren't safe

anywhere.
