I have taken 120 mg down to 60 mg every day since that time. My brain so far has been clear pretty much the entire time I have had Lyme. I still have Lyme and am still fighting to get rid of it. During my first experience with Lyme I have been taking many vitamins and minerals--about 40 different ones every day. I could tell a great improvement when I first started taking the vitamins and minerals and believe they have helped me a great deal since my infection. I believe c, e selenium. Folic acid. L carnation, Turin and calcium magnesium with D, potassium and a good B complex are probably the most important. I have been taking garlic also since my initial infection with about 400 mg, Garlic is a wild card!! I know that one Chinese Doctor treats Lyme patients with large amounts of garlic. I don't know how much, but decided to start trying it myself on May 7, 2003. I started out with 1200 mg on day one then to 1500 on day 2 and day 3 and then went to 1620 mg on day 4. That night as I went to bed I had a pretty strong HERX. I have felt a difference in my Lyme condition since taking the larger amounts of garlic. I am gradually increasing my garlic amount and have now reached 1820 mg per day. All my best wishes and prayers for all people with Lyme and especially the children. Guest guest
I got tremendously sick on CoQ-10 before my Lyme diagnosis....actually it was given to me by an endocrinologist who was trying Hgh therapy on me for CFS...anyway, before he began the Hgh he gave me some vitamins to take for a few weeks...with CoQ-10 being really the only one that I hadn't been taking in the past (maybe also something called NADH.) His secretary accidentally gave me a bottle that contained three times the dose he a prescribed and I was to take one three times a day. I got *so* sick.... My hair fell out and I got incredibly sicker (I.e. joint pain, fatigue, flu like symptoms.) I went to the nutrition guy in the endocrinologist's office and he looked it up and swore up and down that there was nothing I was taking that should make me so much sicker. I stopped the vitamins anyway and felt much better. It wasn't till a few months later when I finally found my LLMD (Ridgefield, CT)...I asked him if I should be taking any special supplements because I usually take alot...and he said that the big one to *avoid* was CoQ-10...hes found that it really activates Lyme. I avoid it like the plague...I got much better off of it. Good luck- Melina [ ] COQ10 AND LYME DOES ANYONE ON THIS FORUM HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH COQ10 ? EVERYTIME I TAKE THIS STUFF FOR ABOUT A MONTH I START TO FEEL REALLY BAD. ALL THE VARIOUS SYMPTOMS OF LYME BECOME GROSSLY ENHANCED. I COME OFF OF COQ10 WHEN THIS OCCURS BECAUSE I AM NOT SURE WHETHER THE LYME IS FEEDING OFF COQ10 AND GETTING WORSE OR THE COQ10 IS TRYING TO DESTROY THE LYME AND IN REALITY I AM HAVING SEVERE HERXES. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL COMMENTS,THOUGHTS, EXPERIENCES, ETC. ETC. ON THE MATTER. BOB TRADERS@...
Guest guest
This is interesting that several people report this. CoQ10 is listed in Dr. B's guidelines and I've always taken it. I haven't gone off it to see what would happen. > I got tremendously sick on CoQ-10 before my Lyme diagnosis....actually > it was given to me by an endocrinologist who was trying Hgh therapy on > me for CFS...anyway, before he began the Hgh he gave me some vitamins to > take for a few weeks...with CoQ-10 being really the only one that I > hadn't been taking in the past (maybe also something called NADH.) Guest guest
Fascinating topic. I have backed off my supplements lately because taking them is making me feel toxic. I have been one by one eliminating them, to try to find the one that is causing the problem, but so far to no avail. Honestly I never suspected it could be CoQ10. Today after reading this list I took all the supplements minus 100mg CoQ10, and felt good (not toxic.) I will experiment more this week. One day with it, the next day without it, and see if it holds. I am not sure if I have lyme. Thanks, Doris
Guest guest
Coenzyme Q10 isn't a vitamin. It's a fat-soluble antioxidant nutrient. It's essential for the production of ATP which is adenosine triphosphate that is in the cellular engines called mitochondiria. We use ATP to store energy within cells. It stimulates normal immune function. It is used to help lots of conditons involving the heart, chronic fatigue syndrome, candidias, inflammation of the gums, multiple allergies, and environmental illness. It is not toxic and does not accumulate excessively in the tissues. So there is nothing in CoQ10 that Lyme would feed off or assist in killing off Lyme except in that it supports the immune system that prolonged anitibiotic therapy can deplete. It may be that the lyme is being destroyed and toxins are being released and that is what you are feeling. Guest guest
I think it's terrifically difficult to point to a single factor with this messy disease and say " that's the silver bullet. " We all seem to have different sets of symptoms, length of time infected and multiple methods of treatment--as well as wild variations in response to those treatments. I wish there was some clear-cut treatment regimen that I could adopt and look forward to a predictable recovery. In the meantime, I'll keep reading and sifting through the possibilities. Guest guest
I don't know all the actions of COQ10 so I won't claim that it is beneficial to everyone. Clearly, some at least FEEL worse on it. As we all know 'feeling worse' can mean many different things. However, I do not understand this advice about antioxidants. I'll venture to say that everyone with a chronic infection has high oxidative stress. I would think antibiodics would be less effective if your body is stressed out by oxidation and can't handle the infection. I take lots of antioxidants but still herx badly enough on abx, so it isn't washing it all out. Kell > Hi, > > I've been following this thread with interest. Dr. D. told me to stay > away from COQ10.
