hi

this was sent to another list, but i am including it to our list.

how nice to have our two posters love each other!

it is important to realize boundaries.

remember, we are not responsible for the choices of others.

be clear about that. we are responsible for our choices!

think about it. if anyone's behaviour determines our behaviour in a

linear fashion

than we are saying we have no free will. those who believe this must

be very frightened ,unhappy, and angry.

in order to break the chain of reaction we must first stop blaming

ourselves and

others. than we need to take responsibility for what we have created

in our life.

what we are creating.

what do you want to create? what is possible to create?

in the saddest expression of non free thinking writ large in recent

years, the usa

has bombed and shot innocent people and started to destroy more of our moral

liberties at home.

bin laden made us do it! if your child came home and told you,

" johnny made me do it " , would you accept this?

it is not the injuries or trauma we recieve from others, it is what we do to

ourselves that causes most of the damage in our lives.

jesus was clear about this.

Dear ,

This is a support and information group for sick people some of who may

not be doing well enough to care for themselves never mind give any

thought as to what goes on outside of their bedroom, at times anyway,

and when they do, there are other ways to find out than here. How would

you like to be on the line and about to pull the trigger and then come

here and read a message like that below? " BANG " That is what I think

and even though most do not have a gun there are other ways of doing it,

such as overdose, which would mean I would go to sleep and never wake

up. Your post is political at best and neither supportive nor

informational at worst. Be careful where you post this kind of stuff,

note the newsgroup and please, oh please, consider your " audience "

I believe this original post was what is called magical thinking.

We do NOT have free will over many things. If you look at the whole

spectrum of life as a unity, from single celled micro organisms up to

humans, where is free will? It is in there, but within a range

called accident, fate, environment, genetics, etc etc. I recently

watched a movie called Winged Migration, following birds over their

migrations aroudn the earth--some species migrate 12000 miles every

year. There was one bird whose wing broke in an accident. It showed

him on the beach, left behind by his flock, and being attacked by

crabs. He kept trying to run away but could not and finally they

surrounded him and killed him. Where was his free will? And why

would " God " make a universe where all of life except us does NOT have

free will; and why would God make a universe where some of that life

has nothing to do with us at all, like life at the deep sea vents,

which flourishes, while we are totally unaware. A good look at

biology shows a different truth.

So if you happened to be unlucky and your genetic lottery plus

walking in the wrong garden or hiking in the wrong field/mountain,

got you a bunch of really virulent tickborne diseases, and you feel

awful, you don't have a lot of control over that. You can try to do

your best, fight in what ways you can, and try your best to have

strength and find some happiness, but there is no way that " blame the

victim " works in such cases. It's just magical thinking because

people are afraid to face how little control they DO have over their

lives; speaking of Bin Laden, as little control as the people who

died in the WOrld Trade Center, including the firemen who did make

the choice to become firemen but never thought they'd have to ascend

into 100 story bombed buildings and die in them.

My view is that compassion for life's hardships, and for those who

suffer their share of them, is much kinder than " you make your own

reality. "

I thought it sounded AWFULLY like something my VERY ex-housemate would say!

She is a very ditzy and emotionally troubled new age psychiatric social worker -

in Austin, city of the Strange.

But I couldn't figure out what it DOES say, so I stopped reading.

I wasn't going to say anything until someone else didn't care for it.

Everyone has their own idea of what they find comforting, and that of people on

disease mailing lists usually don't share mine.

Magical thinking?

I still can't figure out what this post exactly said, and since I get depression

too, I really don't want to put much effort into it.

But so that people understand, there is positive magical thinking, and negative

magical thinking. I am actually something of an expert on magical thinking;

since I have bipolar disorder, I have put half of my life into learning of the

different ways to do it; concentrating of course on the constructive ones.

Some new age strands of magical thinking can be particularly dangerous.

I didn't have to see what was supposed to drive me to suicide to conclude this

message smelled awfully like a very negative way of thinking.

One thing that is becoming clearer to me as people post different snippets of

the message, is that the writer was over the edge. I don't find this way of

thinking to make much sense to begin with, but this post isn't coherent. The

ideas he expresses don't make any sense in terms of each other, and there is no

apparent logical progression. If I knew who wrote it, and what city he was

in, I think I might check with the local mental health emergency response team.

If posted it because it expresses how he is feeling, a clearer mode of

communication would have begun, " I am feeling very depressed " , or even, more

urgently, " I am feeling so depressed that nothing seems to make any sense! "
