First get the kit, it costs 4.95 at Homedepot. Then see if you have a problem. Most mold is cleaned up by half Chlorine and half water. If in the walls [common] you need to open up and clean it up.Usually a leak on the roof, leak it bathroom fictures, or kitchen fixtures. DO not mess with mold, it can kill you. I know of people with kids that got real sick, they moved, and health came back quickly. First find out if you have a mold problem.

hello all......i am on LDN for almost 7 months now....have auto immune thyroid disease, Lyme, and RA..............I went for my follow up appointment and was told to buy a test kit for mold....i was told that i need to rid the house of mold but it cost too much for us to do right now...could someone please tell me if they have had an experience with this and also if mold air filters will do the trick for now since i dont have the funds to totally rid the home of mold.....i have been pretty much bed bound and breathing it in 24/7.

thank you,

Terri

Thank you both for your advise...

I am going today to buy the mold test kits...i know we have it though because we have had lots of water damage from leaky pipes. There are 2 places on the living room ceiling where there is a slow leak and since we just couldn't afford to fix another one right now, we just poked a small hole so any drips could come out without affecting the ceiling around it and a black mold spot grew around both places. How would we go about cleaning that? Would mold filter air machines be enough?

i will look under "know the cause" too.....i have that site in my favorites.

This is the most serious issue you have, right now. Address this, it will solve half of your problems.

Mold can be a major issue. When I moved into my apt in 1991 I didn't realize it but when my daughter would come in my place, she would say mom I smell mold. I didn't seem to have a clue on this. I live very close to the ocean and also realize our gardner waters heavily around our bldg. So before I knew it my sofa had mold spots all over the back and sides and I had mold in my closet in my bedroom. I did call the health dept and they came out...of course, my landlord was not happy with that. Tough.

Anyway, I scrubbed down the closet wall with clorox and the mold has not returned. I had to throw out clothes and shoes which had mold on them. Got rid of the sofa and now have a new one keep looking and sniffing all the time for mold issues. The gardner does not water heavily anymore..living in So. Cal we don't have much rain so that's really not an issue here. The bldg is old and it can be damp here with fog, etc. I run my wall heater in the winter to keep things dryer and warm. My mom in our house back east ran a dehumidifier in her basement all the time.

Thank you all for your input on this matter....i got the test kits, i got a few face masks, and some mold remover and blocker spray...i will spray where i know there is mold and wait and see how the test kits come out. My doctor says its as important as you all have said and he thinks i will see a big difference once its gone.

thanks again,

Terri

I am sensitive to molds, too. After an initial cleanup, I spray the area with a dilute solution of Tea Tree oil. I also put 20 drops on furnace filter and other filters monthly. And, I put some Tea Tree Oil on cotton balls and stick in upholstered furniture.

This has worked for me for over ten years.
