Guest guest
Hi All, I just wanted to share a story that I think is worth sharing. I am a columnist and have been ever since I gave up my managing editor's job when my kids got sick. I wrote a column recently about my son's struggle with Lyme. A few weeks after it ran, I received a letter from a home care nurse who said she suspected, from reading my column, that maybe the woman she cares for has Lyme disease instead of MS. I wrote back, urging her to consider taking her to an LLMD (and gave her a couple of names and phone numbers). I also praised her for being so caring to write, asking for help for this 50-year-old woman who is now in a wheelchair and has been declared legally blind, after years of a very active life. Today, this nurse called me and said, " There's someone who wants to speak with you... " The lady got on the phone and said, " Miss, I want to thank you. Just today, I got my Lyme test back. It's positive. " She had gone to the doctor I had recommended, and he put her on antibiotics three weeks ago, in spite of the fact that her initial test was negative. Already, she said she is able to sit up on her own, which she has not been able to do for a couple of years. She is hoping that now, with the positive test, he can order I.V. Rocephin, from what he had indicated. It is so important that we all keep speaking up and reaching out. This one story is enough to make me very glad that I did... ~Judie

Guest guest
I agree with this so strongly. I am very involved in a cfs and fms chat group. It is amazing in the short time that I have been involved how many people I have had the opportunity to let them know the truth and quite a few are on their way to being tested and getting real answers. I just think as much as we can get the word out what lyme really is the better. holly [ ] reaching one person... Hi All, I just wanted to share a story that I think is worth sharing. Guest guest
Just want to say thank you to all you who like holly & Judy reach out in so many ways. was misdiagnosed with CFS and it was through several ex-CFSers on a CFS list that he was finally able to put together the pieces of the puzzle, maybe it was even Holly herself. Anyways, we now are constantly getting calls and emails from friends of friends who have heard about what we are going through and think it " sounds a lot like what they or a friend is experiencing " . I remember how much of a change getting diagnosed brought to our lives and feel good everytime we can help someone else go through the same transformation. Each and every person really does count. Guest guest
thank you and I agree, my journey to being diagnosed was a horrible time in my life and if I can help one person in the smallest way then that makes me happy. I know I have made an impact on people that just thing they are simply walking aroung with cfs and fms or even other diseases. Our knowledge of Lyme disease is all we are equipped with to help people. Re: [ ] reaching one person... Guest guest
I think that I have made it quite known, that reaching out so important. Just can't help wanting to share with anyone & everyone what I have been able to do and what I have found that has improved my life so much! I can't remember feeling like this -- it is cruel what Lyme does to us...and I firmly believe that if I can get better, than I can help others... And I will continue to make every effort to help all of you in any way that I can... With all my heart, Re: [ ] reaching one person... Guest guest
Hi, Thank you from me, too...I have felt from the very beginning of this awful journey that SOMETHING good had better be made of it. Just yesterday I learned that a sweet lady who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's tested positive for Lyme, tested as a result of my column. Her confusion and mental lapses came shortly after she had converted a section of wooded area over in to a rose garden, and her daughter said my column prompted her to consider this as a possibility. It is especially difficult for those of us who live in states that supposedly have NO Lyme disease, I think, but maybe it's this tough everywhere just to get a diagnosis. It definitely hurt in my son's case, and it breaks my heart to think how long he suffered as we were repeatedly told, " No, it can't have anything to do with that tick bite...there's no Lyme disease here... " The good thing is: those of us who are here in this place together at least know WHAT we are fighting! Take care and keep fighting, ~Judie
