Questions are being raised about whether the swine flu scare was exaggerated to benefit PHARMA companies. Evidence has surfaced that several members of the World Health Organization's (WHO) vaccine board which pushed countries to buy the H1N1 vaccine have had significant ties with PHARMA companies. This fact was exposed by Danish news media last month. Attempts were made to get WHO's response, but several emails sent to the office of the WHO director-general on January 9 met with no response. I can tell you from his side that the workers have busted their @#$ since April to make vaccine to protect people from this dangerous flu strain. The PHARMA company that I know is not making tons of money from this vaccine--it is being purchased from the government and there isn't a huge profit margin. If you knew how much work went into gearing up for this pandemic and the heart and soul (and forsaken vacations, honeymoons, weekends, etc.) behind getting this product safely to market [as I do personally] you wouldn't believe the conspiracy theories. The workers might have worked very hard on this product, just like the workers at strip mines or mountain top coal miners that caused so much pollution, each worked for companies that were most concerned with the bottom line. I know they've been asked to continue to push manufacturing so they can supply Mexico for their second wave (if you remember, it all broke out last year in April/May). I'd like to stress that this is about saving lives, not the bottom line. They are sacrificing production of other profitable lines to try to keep this from becoming a plague. Do you know anyone who suffers from Polio? Small Pox? Do you know how devastating Meningitis can be for young people? Vaccines have saved many lives and yes, unfortunately a few have suffered side effects and I don't belittle those unfortunate ones. This strain has been a tricky one and you can't imagine the time, effort and energy that went into developing and manufacturing this vaccine. The FDA has not given any slack to the manufacturers and has worked closely with the pharmaceutical companies that produce vaccines (not very many any more) to prevent a national epidemic. I'm not into fear-mongering and hope that anyone who doesn't believe in vaccines is boosting their immune systems and washing their hands, etc. when the flu rolls through. It is my understanding that getting flu shots regularly can help boost your resistance to other bugs but I'm sure not everyone will believe that and I know healthy people who have never gotten a flu shot. The people on this listserve are NOT the healthy ones so I hope you all stay healthy and safe with or without your flu shots! I believe in Homeopathic remedies and used to take Echinacea (two tablets twice a day after exposure) but am afraid it might interfere with the medicines I'm on now (Tamoxofen, etc.). I know when it covered our area a few months back there were CHILDREN who were hospitalized and on ventilators; this is not like the regular flu but seems to be harder on the young. Those adults I knew who suffered swore it was worse than anything they'd experienced before and it is very hard (potential irreversible damage) to lungs.
