Guest guest
Dear Jeanie, You hit the nail on the head...excessive carb cravings can be caused by candida and many other things.I believe in getting to the cause of a person's problem. I I have not heard of any ill-effects from taking 5-HTP for an extended time....I just like to get to the cause of things and take care of them from there. And Jim.....yes indeed that whole TRP (tryptophan) scare back in the 80's was so ridiculous....it was one batch of TRP being made in Japan. A genetically engineered batch! But the joke's on them (the gov., pharmaceutical industry, etc.) because 5-HTP is a closer precursor to seratonin that regular TRP. Anyway.....Have a great evening!! Guest guest
DL-Phenylalanine is an amino that works as a(n): antidepressant, analgesic, stimulant. You might check it out. I've been eating 500mg/day for close to a year. (first thing in the morning w/ juice, vitamin C, and a piece of fruit.-Blk cherry juice and a plum are nice) I started it when I was a cheatin' vegan; I may may quit soon since I've been on the O diet for a while now...my body might get enough now through the meat that I eat. I guess I'll just have to keep close watch over my moods and see... Ciao. JC
Guest guest
- why don't you recommend 5-HTP long term? I have fibromyalgia and have been taking it a while and plan on continuing it as my " anti-depressant " for low seratonin levels. O's aren't supposed to take St. 's Wort and I refuse to do anti-depressants. It helps me. Carb cravings can also be caused by candida by the way. Guest guest
Thanks . You a chiropractor? Glad I'm ok with the 5-HTP. Its amazing how big a deal they make of problems with natural supplements when drugs kill people every day. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your suggestions, encouragement, and support. I'm doing better today. Decided not only to take it one day at a time, but one meal at a time. Seems much less overwhelming that way. I guess I had just gotten into a slump and was feeling sorry for myself, and let myself go wild eating carbs--those ol' comfort foods (which quickly cause DIScomfort). I hope everyone has a nice weekend. Thanks again. > Re: Sugar cravings > > > Hi , > > Carbs make you crave carbs. If you can go one day or two > without any, you > won't crave them any more. Guest guest
I think L-Glutamine powder (an amino acid..protein) helps. Guest guest
I have noticed that I crave carbs under two different circumstances:1) if I have abstained from any significant amount for about a week;2) and if I introduce significant amounts into my diet. I believe there is a median. Recently I have been introducing limited amounts of carbs along with massive amounts of probiotics and am doing better by the day. Guest guest
for carb cravings also consider getting a stool test for candida overgrowth (yeast). don't know if there's another way to test for it, but candida will make you crave sugar, and if you've been on prednisone you've likely got a candida overgrowth.
