Guest guest
Dear tanya lord, honey!! almost 50 pounds in 3 months???? a SLOW LOSER????? noooooooooooooo. you are doing just fine sweetie! are you exercising? so many people don't and i am here to tell you it is the KEY, i believe. exercise citrucel and whey are the most important aspects of all this (besides the vitamins.... TAKE THEM RELIGIOUSLY!) it is a lot to do and a lot to remember at times, but i promise it will pay off for you. i remember being almost 300 (my highest). and i remember it not being much fun at all.....in fact i was in misery. i am not miserable now!! ok ok i have to exercise and take some yukky citrucel and swallow vits all day long, but hey....i WAS taking diabetes and BP meds all day, eating like a (sick) horse was unable to walk more than a few feet , much less EXERCISE! and i was facing stroke, amputation, heart disease, blindness,etc..... now i am facing rock climbing, epic shopping excursions, mountain biking, kayaking, and on top of all that, i have to ride " shotgun " (i think some of the non-yuppy bikers call it riding " bitch " , but being a kindergarten teacher with an apple on my helmet, it doesn't fit me) on the harley davidson we bought (yes, we are " leather yuppies " ) so, hang in there, girl and life will get better and better. follow Dr R's post op instructions to the " T " and move yourself, it will just get easier. xoxoxo S in VA mgb11-16-00 (288 highest) pre MGB 248/158/145 close, but no cigar > Today is officially my 3 month anniversary so here's my update. Guest guest
Congrats . I am glad to hear you are doing great. Wow, size 16...just think, you will never be a size 22 again. It was my pleasure to be with you for surgery. Keep in touch. (Don't forget to do your 3 month followup form online.) 3 month update Hi all, I don't post often, but I wanted to take a moment to send an update to all the great people I've met through this process. I had my MGB with Dr. R three months ago on January 15th and have lost a total of 73 lbs. Thankfully I have had no complications. I have only dumped once after eating pintos n cheese from Taco Bell (not the brightest idea.) My acid reflux, incontinence and sleep apnea are all history. I've gone from a tight size 22 to a comfortable size 16 and my energy is great! I hope to reach my goal and lose 55 more pounds by my 24th birthday in August. I feel blessed to have found Dr. Rutledge when I did. Thanks to Penny, Kathy, , and the rest of Dr. R's great staff. You all made me feel so welcomed and relaxed. Also thanks to Ginny and Carolyn who had surgery the day before me...you ladies are so great and I hope your doing well! To anyone who needs a contact...just email me privately and I'd be happy to help out. It's used to suction off fluid from the stomach for the first 24 hours after surgery, then it's pulled. It doesn't interfere with breathing (unless you use a Bi-Pap or C-Pap machine) and you don't get anything to eat or drink while it is in, so that's a non-issue. Once the tube is pulled, you can suck on ice chips, but it's usually the second day post-op before you can have anything to drink. The first you will get is plain water with a blue food coloring. That is used to see if you have any leaks in the stomach or intestines. If there are leaks, the blue shows up in the drains you have around the incision. If there are no leaks, you are started on a clear liquid diet and encouraged to sip water constantly. If you tolerate that without any problems, you are advanced to full liquid the next day, and soft foods the day after. At least that's the way it went for me. Hope that answers your question. When Dr K heard from the office, he flew back from red bluff came to the Shilo and checked all 4 of us out. We were his only post ops left (it was the holidays and they closed down the ward after we all checked out) Anyways, Charlies leak was showing blue (Ihad brought some smurf juice-aka- blue water, and Charlie wasnt feeling well and he drank it and out it came) So Dr K made him go back to liquids only, and stay an extra week so he could watch him. The leak closed on its own and Charlie is fine today. (btw -)he was not a revision. Then there have been others whose leaks are so bad that Dr K has to go right back i9nto surgery to fix. I took a bite expecting to vomit all over the western US, but it was good. Same with the tofu ice cream! Go figure! I'd much rather have a WHOLE cheese cake from the Cheesecake Factory in Newport Beach, though. UMMMMMMMMMMM Love that place. OK, I'm leaving the house for 1/2 and hour. I have to pay the cable bill.
