Guest guest
I am totally confused. Which one is correct???From: "smalk50@..." <smalk50@...>nualawhite@...; zahavi100@...; low dose naltrexone Sent: Thu, November 12, 2009 8:35:30 AMSubject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] RE: D3 testing The Vitamin D, 25-OH, Total is the correct test- On my Quest labs, it has it listed that way along with vitamin d, 25-oh, d3 and d2 - I think that your doc has been using the wrong test according to this: "Unfortunately, about 20% of United States doctors order the wrong test. They order a 1,25-dihydroxy- vitamin D, thinking that by measuring the most potent steroid in the human body, calcitriol, they are getting useful information. They are not. 1,25-dihydroxy- vitamin D is an adaptive hormone; it goes up and down with calcium intake. So these doctors see the 1,25-dihydroxy- vitamin D is normal or high and tell their patients that they are ok when really, they are vitamin D deficient—advice that may prove fatal. Furthermore, most doctors who see a 25(OH)D of 30 ng/ml will tell you that level is fine when it is not—that is, few doctors know how to correctly interpret the test results." http://www..vitamind council.org/ health/deficienc y/am-i-vitamin- d-deficient. shtml Your instincts are probably right to find another doc...... Guest guest
This Vit D testing seems to be so confusing. My doc does one test: Vitamin D (25 Hydroxy) and my last labs came up 57.6 on a range of 20-100. When I started out with my First Test in late 2006, my number was a deficient 15.
