By far best than cyclines and macrolides, even IV ceftriaxone. Moreover, fluconazole crosses the brain blood barrier. I don't know what diflucan real does, but it does something, I can ensure you. I have heard of a few others in Europe using this protocol with good results, but IMHO the scientific support for it is very weak. Basically just one publication from Schardt himself. Some other German Lyme docters use the treatment (if ABX does not seem to work). Officially it is an antifungal drug, which could suggest that maybe in these patients the main problem is fungi (like Candida) and not Borrelia infection; fungi can produce many of the same symptoms. The way it works sounds a bit scary to me, blocking some of the cytochrome p450 pathways. Like metronidazol and tinidazole, using it for a prolonged time does not sound like a good idea.
