Guest guest
Hi Chris: I would like to echo Jim's sentiments. You did a great job of explaining how you do CBT with Kelsey. Sounds like you have a career as a therapist. I understand there is a real shortage of trained CBT professionals, particularly those willing to work with kids. You are setting an excellent example of how effective, patient, understanding, and thoughtful a parent/therapist can be. The only comment I would add about the nail biting is that some docs are using similar BT as for TTM for nailbiting. This involves habit reversal techniques which use similar muscle groups in performing a competing response. Perhaps something like chewing gum and clenching her hand at the same time. A good CBT therapist should be able to make some effective suggestions. My older son who does not have OCD is a nail biter, although not a down-to-the-quick kind. He just got braces and these cut his fingers when he was trying to bite. This seems to be helping him resist his bad habit. He will be in braces for two years. Take care, aloha, Kathy (Ha) kathyh@... Guest guest
hi jim. have you considered trying nyastatin and probiotics and eating plain yogurt? also some antibiotics are milder than others. my understanding of fighting lyme is that herbs are NOT enough--that is what my two ILADS docs have told me . will your insurance cover IV antibiotics? c Jim <jbaysales@...> wrote: -HI, I am new here since yesterday, but have been on Lyme_Aid_BUhner since the beginning and on LymeNet for two years. Many of us can't take antibiotics because they destroy our GI systems, especially our stomachs. Even if we are not allergic to them, they are killers and kill a lot more than bad bacteria. I was one of them. I got bit in 1999 and waited 5 months to get diagnosed and treated. And it was a local duck who gave me 24 days of Cipro. It did help and all symptoms were gone for about 9 months. However I slowly relapsed until by November of 2005, I thought I was going to die, I felt so bad. My duck wouldn't give me any more abx, so I found the Healing Lyme book by H. Buhner in an advertisement on the LymeNet page; from Amazon.com. I ordered it, studied it, and ordered the herbs. I started them on November 25, 2005. I got improvement in just a few days. But I had to start slowly as I had ruined my stomach on too much vitamin C in ascorbic acid form through the years; plus soda pop. I got a hold of some Tetracycline and Doxycyline, and took the tet for 28 days along with the herbs; then stopped the tet for 7 days. Then added the Doxy to the herbs for what I had hoped to be 28 days, but the pain in my stomach got worse and worse and I just could not get past 24 days with it. That ended my abx for Lyme. It took weeks to get reasonably better, but nothing, even the herbs helped the pain in my stomach. I discovered C-Salts in the Healing Lyme book, you can get it from nutri.com. THAT has been the only thing that has helped my stomach. It is good to this day. I only take herbs for Lyme now. I gradually ramped up to my maximum regiman in early 2006. I stayed on the maximum for about 5 months. Then gradually reduced them so that I am on just a mimimum of herbs now. I went from about 30% t0 maybe 40% of my potential in 2005, to about 90% NOW! Some days I even feel about 95% well. Never 100%, but I am 66 years old now, and have the age against me also. So yes, we do get better from HERBS. Many who have not had Lyme as long as me, have gotten symptom free with them. Jim ###
Guest guest
Hi, I have a few questions in regards to just starting off. I have already recieved a lot of helpful info from Selma since we talked last. So anyway, I have the 3 main core herbs and my new copy of the book is coming this week. I want to start taking the herbs but wasn't sure what to start first. I hear that resveratrol is now Buhners top herb in lyme. I was thinking of taking 1/2 a pill 2 times per day at first and them working my way up. But do you think I should take some cleansing detox type things first since I've been on abx for a while on and off? Well I'll keep it short for now. Let me know what you think.. Thanks, Rich
Guest guest
Hi: Yes, I have taken probiotics when I was taking the abx. I don't anymore with the herbs. Don't find it necessary now. I have medicare and as far as I know the two LLMD's here in Wisconsin, do not take Medicare or Medicaid. I don't think I want to get involved with IV abx's either. I have seen some who have suffered so much while on IV's. I feel so much better since I dropped the abx and have been on herb's only. Not perfect, but pretty decent. Jim. ###
