Carol,

Thanks for sharing this. The way MDs are trained to practice medicine seems

more geared toward the latest technological advances, tests, &

pharmaceuticals--and the increasingly short time doctors have with each patient.

It's a lot more time-efficient to treat symptoms by ordering some tests &

writing prescriptions, than really getting the whole picture of the person's

life. How much can an MD accomplish in a routine 15 min visit-- even if s/he

has the knowledge and motivation to practice integrative medicine.

I think this makes so much sense and I hope is the wave of the future for

medicine.

Kim,

I agree. I worked at one hospital for awhile where they wanted me to schedule

patients 5 minutes apart. What can a doctor possibly do in 5 minutes?!?!?!

Fifteen isn't even enough to update a history from the last visit. It's a

disgrace to the health care profession.

agree as well, I think Lyme is (usually) not just a Borrelia infection but a

cumulation of problems that causes the system to break down, or the proverbial

last drop that causes overflow. But most Lyme patients don't want to hear it

(just like MS patients never want to hear that their illness might be related to

infection).

I had never heard about 'Functional Medicine' before. I understood from some

other article that Chinese Medicine also struggles with chronic, auto-immune

like diseases. The major difference with western medicine seems to be that they

have an individual approach (not just 3 months of ABX for everyone ...), but

that also makes it very difficult to 'prove' that is really works.
