Not sure if that's the case with Buhner herb protocol, but suppose so because of the high doses and length of time he recommends taking them. I plan to start naturopathic treatment including herbs after antibiotics (6 months of orals so far, in spring going IV). Normally there is some effect, but Samento/Catsclaw basically boosts your immune system, it does not directly 'kill' anything (which could cause a 'herx'). My guess is that some people 'herx' from Samento simply because of the alcohol, not the alkaloids themselves.
