Guest guest
Thank you judy-unfortunately believe it or not.. when I tried L-theanine in past it acts as a stimulant for me! Just the opposite effect. Valarian also does that as well......2nd night again on Trazadone... woke every hour but seemed to be sleeping /intense dreaming on it.. hopefully I 'll continue to get improved sleep on that. We will see. Thx. > > > I have used melatonin for awhile - 2 (I think they're 6's) on > > Sunday, then 1 > > Mon-Th then none Fri and Sat cause I can sleep in. > > > > Same thing as you - room dark; quiet; no blinking lights; some days > > that > > doesn't work if I'm really stressed but usually I'm OK. Guest guest
I do hope it helps. Trazadone was a disaster for me and valarian acts as a stimulant as well. The only thing I want to say, if you end up needing to try something else (and I hope not!) is that sometimes the body responds differently to some things when they are combined with other things. Guest guest
Hi, all, I always chime in on these sleep threads cuz I am the expert on insomnia! Unwillingly. Like Judy I tried every herb known to man, and some work occasionally or for a while, none are 100% reliable for me. I am going to try that Natural Factors that Judy talks about below. A couple other suggestions: For me, qi gong, {Chinese movement and meditation practice} works like magic for sleeping. I have to find a class somewhere. Yoga might work for some people too. Also, I find that the liquid extracts work better for me than pills. The downside is - that they are taken in water, increasing the urgency of the need to pee in the night. But I get up anyway at 3:30 am, and sometimes taking the liquid extracts, I will get up and go back to sleep. It's when I get up at 3:30 and stay up - that is the problem. Good sleeping to you, ellen >
Guest guest
The 64,000 question!! lol! Sleep has been one of the most difficult problems throughout my 20 year life with this group of bugs. I've tried a lot. Talking to doc this week, she suggested a sleep study - but I realize it will only test oxygen saturation of the blood; and I don't believe that's the basis of my problem. I'll go ahead and do the test, but she said that most treatments (besides the C-PAP of course) are what they call 'sleep hygiene.' I realized that I have some experience with that. A lot of it I already do, ie. habits that wind a person down when its nearing bedtime (I'm oversimplifying) but I also realized that I need to get back to other things I know. For me, a long, meditative yoga session helps, plus Conscious Breathing once I'm actually in bed. This worked the last two nights (added to the other things that I do). Unfortunately, I'm still exhausted this morning! lol!! But at least a slept, with a few wakings of course. My 'standards' of what is good have really dropped! lol! I hope you find relief. I've changed 'to sleep, perchance to dream,' to 'to bed, perchance to sleep!' lol! jo I've used > > > > > I have used melatonin for awhile - 2 (I think they're 6's) on > > > Sunday, then 1 > > > Mon-Th then none Fri and Sat cause I can sleep in. > > > > > > Same thing as you - room dark; quiet; no blinking lights; some days > > > that > > > doesn't work if I'm really stressed but usually I'm OK. Guest guest
After years of my own experience with insomnia, here are some things I have found to be helpful that I have not seen mentioned:Supplements:Phosphatidalserine and5-Hydroxytryptophan (aka 5-HTP)Both seem to improve brain function generally. Also regular QiGong practice has been a terrific help. My Qigiong teacher has produced some CDs for relaxation and to help in getting into a restful meditative state. See his web site: www.inner-tranquility.com.
Guest guest
I will also add, meditative yoga helps. Also Conscious Breathing by Gay Hendricks). I learned this breathing method and use it both to get to sleep and when I wake in the night. It does not always work, but does enough to keep me using it. jo > > After years of my own experience with insomnia, here are some things I have found to be helpful that I have not seen mentioned:Supplements:Phosphatidalserine and5-Hydroxytryptophan (aka 5-HTP)Both seem to improve brain function generally. > Also regular QiGong practice has been a terrific help.
