Guest guest
its not uncommon to have GI upset and heartburn etc from digestive enzymes. The proteases, like serrapeptidase ( peptide enzyme) and the main ingred of Wobenzyme ( 2 pancreatic serine peptidases) are simply PROTEIN digestors. Peptide = building blocks of proteins, and 'ASE' = enzyme and defined as " helps break bonds of " . hence peptidase = helps breakdown of peptides by breaking chemical bonds. Where these substances can go in body and which proteins they contact will determine what if any action theyll have.Trypsin for example is quite restrictive as to which bonds it will break. Many find that if their meal has insufficient proteins (meat or vegetable proteins ) or if enzymes are taken too long from a full stomach, it will cause upset of various types. Weak mucosa or other stomach problems may mean that the enzymes will attack protein of the stomach lining itself. Hence its not recommended if you have ulcer or history of ulcer without strict ok from Dr. While these all help if you have digestive and/or absorption problems, there has been NO studies other than those of the companies making the enzymes that have shown unequivocable proof that these enzymes do more or even leave the gut and get to other targets. Its a bit of a contradiction, as they say to take with " leaky gut " to help digestion so large molecules arent leaving the GI, then once it DOES help why would the enzymes still leave the GI tract?? Some companies at least suggest that the main anti-inflammatory actions come from lessening the leaky gut/undigested protein entering the blood and not as a direct anti-inflammatory. At least THIS makes more sense. Either way, enzymes arent always easily tolerated and should (unless told otherwise by a very knowledgeable source) be taken with enough protein or whatever substance its meant to act on ( i.e. lipase for fats, amylase for starch and carbs etc) Some may be coated so they dont dissolve until reaching a certain part of the GI, and this may decrease stomach pain etc.But often the whole point is to begin action in stomach where normally digestion starts.
