I am interested in rebuilding cartlidge as well. I have tried almost anything, without result. I used all the Buhner suggestions except that I used less pregnenolone, because I'm cautious with hormones. Also tried some other suggestions for connective tissue support, no improvement either. I have been losing connective tissue for about three years now and unable to stop or reverse the process. I did notice some improvement from using an infrared light panel for the skin of my face, this makes some of the smaller wrinkles caused by collagen loss to disappear so probably it has a small effect on the upper layer of the skin. But it does not help with the loss of deeper connective tissue. I don't know why the protocols don't work; maybe it is a malabsorption issue (I lost a lot of weight after getting lyme), hormonal problems or maybe the bugs eat away at the collagen fast then my body can replace it. for cartilage, glucosamine and MSM are probably the first choice. Guest guest
What kind of collagen protocol have you used? I used about everything recommended in Healing Lyme for collagen support, except that I used no pregnenolone, or a lower dose.
Guest guest
Hi Carol - We're all different and respond differently, but I've had great luck with Buhner's recommendations ... been following the collagenous tissue support protocol in his book to a tee (including pregnenalone and DHEA) at his recommended dosages and frequencies. I was in excruciating pain and almost completely disabled from this disease. It's been 8 months and my improvement is dramatic in all areas. I'm slowly reducing my core protocol herbs to a low maintenance level, but continue with the full collagenous tissue support recommendations. This has all been in addition to and in conjunction with antibiotics per my LLMD. It's been worth every $ that I've spent. Luckily, I was able to tolerate all of the above. Mainly, I was very consistent in following my protocol ... and for me it seems to have worked. I hope you find some combination that works for you. Guest guest
In addition to Buhner's Collagenous tissue recommendations, my llmd told me to take a specific form of Magenesum ... Magnesium Glycinate. The magnesium supposedly helps cells produce metabolic energy, supports optimum nerve function, helps muscles relax properly and helps maintain a healthy heartbeat. The Glycine (Glycinate) is used by the body to form collagen - a key protein in cartilage and connective tissue and helps with absorption of the magnesium in the intestinal track.
