Mine too, almost five years ago. Sensation hasn't come back, but I hope

everyone else's does. I still have a " sour " taste on that side of my

mouth. Annoys me because my surgeon glossed it over, but he does that a

lot. Eternal optimist and all that, but I am one of those that wants all

of the possible side effects MYSELF! I used to like Diet Pepsi and now can

barely drink it, which is better for me anyway. Still, I used to like to

cook elaborate meals and choose nice wines to go with them, but now it's

just a bother. We all want to be c-toma free, but I wish I knew that I'd

have a hard time making lemonade out of the lemon I taste on the left!

Still in remission and glad.

I have not had that problem, everything tastes the same. I do crave

a lot of sugar and my sense of smell is incredible.

thanks for answering. I too am craving sugar but that is mainly because

it is the only thing I CAN taste. and sugar is not good for anxiety UGH

what is one to do? So you think your sense of smell got better with the

lex or was it always outstanding? alison

I always had a good sense of smell but now it seems more

exaggerated, maybe it just seems that way. I think the sugar

craving might have something to do with low energy, but I have no

idea. I take metformin for insulin resistance, so I am not supposed

to be eating sugar but I have been loading up on it in the past

month. And once I start eating sugar I have a hard time stopping.

That's pretty much it - loss of taste or a metallic taste is common. I had it the loss of taste on one side and a metallic taste on the other for quite some time after my CWD. It takes less time for some to get their buds back. It's a bummer but I believe it almost always corrects itself.

Hi everyone. Last week I had a cwd and so far, so good with the healing. The one major problem I'm having is that I can hardly taste anything. I've got an appt with my dr. tomorrow but was wondering what problems anyone else has had with this. I know there is a nerve that runs through the ear that can change the taste sensations if it gets cut or stretched during surgery and am assuming that's what happened.

I also had loss of taste and metallic taste for several days post-

op. I can't tell you how long it lasted exactly because it kind of

just faded away.

I asked my surgeon about it and he said it was normal.

Yeah, me :-(

Fortunately, I'm the exception to the rule. My nerve wasn't just stretched

or disturbed--it was removed as it was totally engulfed with c-toma. The

surgeon couldn't dissect the growth away, so it had to come out. This is a

very rare exception.

Hi, I also experienced this while on the core protocol. I wrote Buhner

and asked him about it. He believed it was the Resveratrol (knotweed) and not

the Andrographis. So I stopped the Resveratrol, but not the Andrographis or

Cat's Claw. Lose of taste continued. So he advised me to stop everything and

see if it returned. It did, after about a week or so. I was only up to 4 pills

3x/day not the full dose of 4 4x/day, but I think it started very gradually

where I didn't realize until it was really bad. He said it was very rare to

have a reaction to the Andrographis, and I could sub Stephania ?sp for the

Andrographis. I started back up on the Resveratrol, but can't tolerate it

alone, (diarrhea). Hope this helps.

Wonderful! I am in the 1% that loses taste :)

I am using stephania, but my LLDM wanted me on andrographis, too. I really think

it is the culprit because I stopped it and started it again and noticed the

change.

Thanks for the replies, folks.

My experience with andrographis was not a lack of taste, but a 'yukky' taste to

everything. I cannot think of any other word to describe it! It made everything

I ate taste like that! It lasted a while, but I did not abandon the andrographis

because of it; I felt that it was an important part of my protocol. Normal taste

did return eventually.

This was 3 years ago, when I was first on the protocol. I remember having this

discussion with others; no one had the same experience as I had, but others did

have the loss of taste.

For me, as long as I felt the protocol was working, I was willing to accept the

taste issue. Eventually (many months) I had to abandon the andrographis because

it started causing a rash (I tend to get allergic after time on certain

substances); but I still believe it was an important part of the early months of

treatment.

Hi. I know several Lyme patients who were on the core protocol and had that

same experience, and it was due to the Andrographis. They all eventually got

their taste back, but for some it took several months. The prescription drug

Biaxin/Clarithromycin, which is commonly used to treat Lyme & Babesia, can

affect taste, also. I know of one man who totally lost his taste for months

after stopping the Biaxin. For others,it causes a metallic taste in the mouth -

which can be quite bad. I had to stop that medication for that reason. The

Andrographis just made me feel bad in general at the max dose, but the other

Buhner herbs were easy for me and my husband to tolerate.

Good luck.
