Guest guest
According to my local Lyme treating doc, the CD57 only responds to Syphilis and Lyme. I believe that I also got that same info at one of the ILADS conferences in either 2007 or 2008. According to my local doc, the CD57 drops while on ABX and may stay low until 4-6 months after coming off all ABX. However, my primary ILADS Lyme doc says the CD57 normally varies (up or down up to 30 points) on any given day - so its the change over time that is important. That's why he tells me it does not necessarily mean anything when my # drops 20-30 points since the last test. He still uses it to help determine whether Lyme is still present, especially in patients like my husband and I who have several TBDs without a clear picture of exactly which one of the TBDs is causing which symptoms. The CD57 is just another useful tool that cannot give all the answers, but along with a good clinical workup and other diagnostic tests, it can provide info on how a specific part of the immune system is doing in the face of Lyme Disease and ABX use.
