with the gut being supposedly being key to immune health I've been wondering if

the SCD could " cure " lyme.

What has been your experience with the SCD diet and symptoms resolving? Do you

strictly follow it? How are you able to keep the weight on? I've read you can

" heal " the gut in about 2 years with SCD diet and the no longer have to follow?

good question, I think it could be a big factor although this is just part of

the immune system. I think the basic defence against bugs like Bb is the innate

immune system inside our cells.

Many supplements that people take against 'biofilm' will never get further than

the gut; but maybe just curing the gut (even if it is from something else than

Bb infection) could be a major factor to recovery for some, depending on where

the Bb hide and where most of the damage is.

It is also interesting that many symptoms of gluten allergy / B12 deficiency

etc. overlap with Lyme. Maybe they are just different sides of the coin.

I used a low-gluten, low-carb diet for about two years because I had to (severe

gut problems after ABX); don't think it did much for my lyme problems and my gut

is still far from 'normal', like it was before I got Lyme.

SCD=specific carbohydrate diet originally developed for celiac's disease and

later used by Crohns--some docs are using it for other AI problems and in

conjunction with Low DOSE Naltrexone (LDN).

See amazon (Breaking Viscious Cycle )- the original book on diet and see

reviews.

A visual science explanation:

Recipes and guidelines on the same site.

Keep in mind this was designed for Elaine's daughter - she was dying from

crohns.

If anyone knows of a diet scientifically proven for Lyme - please chime in.

I'm pretty sure that does not exist. It would be next to impossible to prove

that a certain diet works for Lyme (even proving that longterm antibiotics work

for Lyme is very tough ...).

The only proof I can imagine is following people with a specific diet for a very

long time (10 years or so) and see what percentage of them develop Lyme, or cure

existing Lyme disease, compared to a 'control group'(if you can find those ...).

I don't think any scientist would be interested in such a study, takes too much

time and would be prohibitively expensive (and no Big Pharma company is willing

to pay for it).

Such studies have been done for diets which are low /high in unsaturated fatty

acids, or meta vs. fish and vegetarian, and even those studies are

controversial. Way too many pitfalls to draw hard conclusions for everyone.

One could suggest many scientific arguments as to why certain foods would be

good/bad for Lyme. But that is just theory, does not prove anything especially

because you mix all these things up in the gut. Many special diets like

countless varieties of glutenfree, lowcarb etc. are based on such theoretical

arguments (or sometimes on very esoteric arguments).

I believe a special diet can help, but if you look at the details it gets very

confusing. E.g. one diet says certain stuff (like coconut oil or avocado's) is

very good and another one says it should be absolutely avoided. There is some

consensus regarding low-carb, less gluten etc. but that's about it. Most of the

details are highly controversial.
