I don't think it was ever made clear if he had Lyme instead of Parkinsons, but it seems likely that his Parkinson symptoms were caused by untreated Lyme (as there were more Lyme victims in his filmcrew). He didn't get into the specifics of his treatment. This was before he started with the twitching finger that lead to the Parkinson's diagnosis.
