Is it even possible to do this? Hi e, I have just recently heard of the concept of 'scent doppelgängers' for things that one cannot find naturally. I did come across a surprisingly coconutty-note that was not made from coconut (but where I left the notes for that evening's work I can't recall), but a couple of evenings ago I also happened upon a dead ringer for celery seed serendipitously, and it was a pairing of oakmoss abs. and foenugreek e.o. Not that I was *looking* for a celery doppelgänger, because there are extracts of that already, but I was mightily amused and astonished that two things together can smell just like something they ain't. Anyway, once I find my scribbled notes for the faux coconut note I'll let you know... best Alfred in San Francisco

It was so great!!!! Everyone was so friendly, the teachers were excellent, and I was literally high from delight all weekend. Monday's class with Mandy Aftel particularly inspired me and helped me to realize that it's natural perfumery that I'm interested in. Strength & Wisdom, leavesofjoy (Micah) Hi Micah Ah California school of herbal studies.... This brings back wonderful memories of Jim Green and Mindy Green...... and some wonderful times there quite a few years back now....... Is Jim Green still there? I remember Mindy showing very proudly her stash of truly wonderful aromatic oils this was when aromatherapy was only just starting its rebirth..... I have some great herbal books by Jim....Their house, with Wisteria. covering the back porch... the herb garden... the hissing of sprinklers .... magical times.... So, Mandy Aftel was teaching there...... how great..... I hope she enjoyed her time there..... Oh and a warm welcome.... there is plenty to read and absorb.... I don't know if you know but Anya starts her perfumery course this Oct 6th..... which is full but she is booking also for the new spring term.... online .... Any questions don't hesitate to post up .... there is always something new and interesting being discussed or even if it is already covered a new twist brings new light...... Janita, Thanks for the welcome- I am happy to be here! The CA Herbal School is now run by the very nice & , who bought it a few years ago I believe. I had never been there before, but the word is that they have done great things with the property and the school, and it is having a rebirth thanks to their efforts. The garden was amazing, I had to take a deep breath and remind myself that plants do not move, and that I really did have enough time to photograph them all! Before that, I had visited the Luther Burbank farm in Sebastopol, so I returned with a very full camera card! I was looking at Anya's October course, thinking about it for the next go-round, although I still have a lot to do to finish with Mandy's workbook/course. I'm in that torn place between not wanting to stress out & push myself too much, but also wanting to know EVERYTHING there is to know RIGHT NOW! But I do think that the aromatic weekend really set me on a good path, it was great to learn in person, even the same stuff you've read in books is somehow understandable with a good teacher, and there were plenty. What I really came away with, besides the bent towards perfumery, is that I have a lot to learn, but it is part of what I already know from herbal healing, it's not some foreign realm that I am approaching from the outside. So, that was a big aside, but it's the report of what brought me here, so thanks for the welcome & listening, all! I'm off to distill a batch of lavender oil, fun fun fun! Wait until they see the repetitive and demanding exercises I'm taking them through. It takes a long time to become a perfumer, you get more humble as the days go on, the months, the years. It's not rocket science, but it does demand attention to detail and keen observational skills, and every aromatic is a new universe. You're already a gardener, so you're really on the path already, you know the old saying - you want to slow down, lie down on the ground, plant a carrot seed. And wait. LOL Just added your company to the Guild website, under Associate, you're right near the top, lucky you! Everyone should check out Micah's site, quite informative and a true journey through alchemy. > Strength & Wisdom, > leavesofjoy > www.al-kemi.com -- Sincerely, Anya Anya's Garden of Natural Perfume http://AnyasGarden.com Natural Perfumers Guild http://NaturalPerfumersGuild.com Natural Perfumers 1200+ members Group http://tinyurl.com/78kmv
Guest guest
Hello all - I wanted to introduce myself as a recent lurker but am now about to start on Buhner's herbals so wanted to say hi. My story goes that I was bitten by 2 ticks in Nashville, TN back in 2002. I knew about Lyme but when I looked up the symptoms and saw flu etc. I thought I was fine as I didn't have that and didn't notice a rash although the bites were in awkward to spot places! I did however begin to develop a rash (possibly morphea) on my torso gradually after the bites (not the same place I was bitten), plus had problems with chest pain, shortness of breath and pains on soles of feet. Some years later I developed hip pain, winter fatigue, dizziness and sores in my mouth. Then 5 years after the bite I went through a stressful patch in my life AND strep throat was going around a work. I think my immune system took a dive and the Lyme finally had a party and rendered me to an existence of constant pain and tiredness - I'm sure you can relate! It took 18 months to find I had Lyme - as what happens with most people it was chronic fatigue syndrome in their eyes. tested negative twice, but positive for sensu stricto at Melisa labs in Germany and very low CD57 (18) confirmed the diagnosis. Have been on antibiotics for 10 months - 6 of them high dose combination therapy (orals only). Am being treated in Ireland. However had loads of problems with side effects and never managed full dose for more than a couple of weeks at a time. Have decided to take another CD57 and then switch to herbals for 3-6 months to see if I get on better with those. Am currently on anti-parasite herbs for 21 days to start with and will build up slowly some of Buhner's herbs starting soon. If anyone is based in Ireland meanwhile do let me know - we have a new group that was set up early this year and I can send a link back channel. Well think that's all for now. All the best,
Guest guest
Hi, Welcome to the group. Many people come to the Herbal approach after finding no (or insufficient) relief from antibiotics. Hope you find great success! Check out the links at the home page to find stories of success with Buhner's Herbal Protocol. {including mine } regards, ellen > > Hello all - I wanted to introduce myself as a recent lurker but am now about to start on Buhner's herbals so wanted to say hi.
