Guest guest
Add in lots of Vit C to keep colds from happening? - Robin [ ] 10 months Treating lyme got first cold Hi all I have been treating lyme for the past 10 months with a CAP and herbs. Been very successful so far. I read every ones postings daily to keep informed. Yesterday I work up with a sore throat and an ENT infection. This is the first time I have gotten really sick since treating. My symptoms have always been neuro, FM, and CFS relates. I pushed myself hard for the past month as I have been looking for work for the past 6 months. Last week got my dream job for integrative therapeutics selling their products to the medical community. (I will open up a dialogue later abt creating a protocol with the parent company schwabe north america) I think I am finally able to relax since it has been 2yrs since I got sick and have worked and was on the last leg financially. So my question is ...... If I am already taking immune enhancing products and all the like, what do I take to bring this cold back in to check? Its not terrible but just enough to affect overall energy and aches in head. I am just resting until I start my job after easter. Look forward to hearing from u. If I am already taking immune enhancing products and all the like, what do I take to bring this cold back in to check? not a direct answer, but it could be a good sign. Many lymies no longer get the common cold and sore throat because their immune systems are screwed. If it comes back it might be a sign your system is recovering. I had this problem (severely) once every year until I got Lyme. Last month I got a sore throat again (although very mild compared to before my Lyme years), for the first time in 5 years. Hoping it is a good sign
Guest guest
Take some antibiotics, the kind your MD would prescribe. I was in the same boat, 10 months on the Buhner protocol and got a wicked cold. As soon as I started taking the antibiotics, I felt better and my Lyme symptoms subsided too, although they are back since I stopped the ABX. Guest guest
I am afraid to stop taking abx bc of them coming back. System/tummy is done with abx right now though. Last time I stopped everything came back with in 3 weeks. I have been taking stuff to try and kill the biofilms too though. So maybe I am ready to come off with a lower load and then treat herbal only. Thoughts? Feeling a little unmanageable right now with a great opportunity right in front of me. The cold/flue is caused by a virus (if anything), so ABX will not be effective in curing it. What they do is reduce inflammation (a side effect of most types of ABX) so you FEEL better. But if you have a nasty virus this is not a good idea, it might get worse.
Guest guest
> > Montylife- How long have you had the cold? I don't have any answers for you, just curious. I usually get a flu every year but since I have been sick with Lyme for 7 1/2 months I have somehow avoided catching the kids & my husbands colds. I think my daughter may have even had the flu a couple of weeks ago. I was thinking, I would be catching things easier because of my immune system with lyme. What gives? I have heard from many lyme patients that they no longer get the common cold. I think this is because part of their immune system is no longer functioning. Guest guest
Hi, I'm on the East Coast (CT), do you reside in CT? Which LLMD do you go to? From: montylife@... To: Date: 03/30/2010 04:13 PM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: 10 months Treating lyme got first cold Sent by: Janice I am doing pretty good actually. My gut is strong and the rest of my body it too. I have some spasms and myalgias. This cold is the kicker right now. I want to go off the abx to be preventative. My latest labs show elevated red blood cell count, low progesterone and low T3 uptake. All this points to liver protein binding trouble. Not the end of the world just need to catch it before I get too far along in de-evolution from abx. The last time I went off it was not good. The neuro part was so bad I was a mess. Starting a new job I can not afford that but my body is also telling me the clock is ticking on the abx side of the spectrum. I see my LLMD on fri. So the discussion will happen then. He is very pro herbs but knows the power of the load and pushes abx. I will keep u all posted on next steps. I do now through my new job have access to the most intelligent drs on the east coast CT-DC. Till then Monty - Re: [ ] Re: 10 months Treating lyme got first cold Sent: Mar 28, 2010 5:37 PM Hey Monty.... it sounds like you have little choice if your gut is in trouble from highdose abx. I have had several 'relapses' after abx treatment courses.... the treatments inevitably got toxic on my kidneys liver and gut - I had the usual three week window of remission... . sounds right..... I am now on Buhner herbs for the last few weeks and also food grade lavender drops inside my ears to help inflammation. .. and am holding steady.... I'm actually having some good days.... herbs may be what I do now to keep the disease from taking over.... it took a shift in philosophy in how I relate to having Lyme disease symptoms. I want to support my whole body in a variety of ways - not just flat out 'war'. Highdose wasn't working for me...... It's scary though, to take the leap. And, no doubt, highdose did take down my load. There was a point where I had severe memory and brain disfunction _ I am so much better now..... Good Luck. RE: [ ] Re: 10 months Treating lyme got first cold So really the antibiotics just tear your system up and the bugs go into cyst form - then come back with a vengence when you stop taking ABX? Took about 7 weeks yes? nancy -----Original Message----- From: @ groups. com [mailto Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T ------------------------------------ Buy Healing Lyme: Natural Healing And Prevention of Lyme Borreliosis And Its Coinfections by Buhner at one of these locations: http://tinyurl.com/3bgm5d
Guest guest
Monty, Do you take milk thistle? It is excellent support for the liver. Its one of my must-have herbs. Seems to me that cats claw will raise some sort of levels of liver function tests too. I have been taking cats claw along with abx and my liver is in great shape (touch wood)because of the milk thistle. About the cold and virus situation; seems to me that our immune systems have a fight or flight mechanism, I guess you could call it. When this mechanism is called upon, certain immune cells are recruited to engulf and dispose of any foreign matter it encounters. These immune cells belong to the white blood cells and are called the " natural killer cells " or " NK cells " . From what I have read, for people with lyme disease these cells are often on high alert. That means they are constantly swimming around hunting for any foreign matter such as viruses and bacteria. That would probably be why us lymees don't seem to get sick as often. IMHO when the NK cells come out to play, the lyme bacteria are predominantly in one particular form ie:spirochete form or cyst form... can't think of which one right now. I'm locked out of my brain tonight lol.. thanks lyme. So it is conceivable that the fact that you are getting a cold after not getting one forever may be a signal that the lyme bacteria have either changed form.. or they are gone. If you decide to stay on the abx or if you end up having to start abx again later you can pulse it too. I think that Dr Zhang (I hope thats his name) has some sort of protocol that is more gentle on the system where he pulses the abx. This particular protocol combines abx with natural meds too, many of which you probably are already taking. Are you taking siberian ginseng? This is a good supplement for immune function. When I feel a cold coming on I take an extra dose just for good measure. Take Care, Chris
Guest guest
I too have not had so much as a cold for many years, figured I just had an excellent immune system. Knew something was wrong, had weird symptoms-- turned out to be Lyme--went undiagnosed 5 1/2 years. So I can really relate to this topic. I hope your cold is a sign of improvement.
