Guest guest
> > Knotweed, I thought that Lyme was the only thing that affected the CD57. Do you have links for the studies or any other info on the CD57 test. CD57 it is NOT specific for Lyme (Borrelia infection), it is more a general marker for chronic infection that occurs with many other diseases. But the exact significance of this marker is still unknown. If you are interested just search for CD57 on Pubmed and you will find over a thousand hits ... So CD57 tests are NOT suitable for proving borrelia infection. They may have some value for evaluating treatment progress for lyme patients (as claimed in the original Stricker articles from 2001/2002), but even that is in doubt: Natural killer cell counts are not different between patients with post-Lyme disease syndrome and controls: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19515868 (I know this article comes from 'the dark side', but anyway ...). The only articles suggesting CD57 is specific to Lyme are the two from Stricker from 2001/2002. All these other authors can't be wrong. Also, theoretically it seems extremely unlikely to me that such an immune marker is specific for Borrelia; that simply is not the way the innate immune system works. That doesn't mean CD57 is useless. There are many markers that are not specific for a certain disease, but still have value for monitoring the patient.
