Guest guest
Recently someone posted a very informative article about Lyme Disease in dogs. I think it was from a Boston paper. I think it was posted on here. If you did, can you repost it?? Thanks.

I think it was posted on here. If you > did, can you repost it?? My Heeler, Belle has/had Lyme. It caused Ankilosing Spondilitis ( her spine is fusing with arthritis, looks like cotton balls on Xray) She goes to TX A & M where they believe Lyme is mono-jointal ( not correct word ugh) and doesn't affect animals nor is it in TX( 8 critters in family, including hubby/me, 1/2 of us have Lyme) Wish I had another option, but they have kept her alive and slowed the disease. Guest guest
Hi maryandkimm I treat dogs. What kind of dog is he and does he have symptoms? Any idea how long he has had Lyme? Somerville, MA
Guest guest
thanks for replying. At the present I am waiting for bloodwork results to come back from lab. But last week, 2 yr old golden retriever came up lame - had to carry him into vet office. Started him on doxy for 1 month and for a couple of days had him on Rimidyl. He was 100% back to normal in 2.5 days, so because of his response to Doxy we are " thinking " that is what he has. I will be able to answer your question better when blood results are back. I was hoping to get him started on some alternative therapy also if that would help him. Possibility of my 11 year old golden having it also - but her symptoms showed about a year ago and no vet even asked to do blood work....they assumed it was a spinal deal. After a pred routine she recovered ok, but long story short - she has trouble getting up and will limp when exercised too much. Probably joint damage if indeed that is what she showed 1st symptoms of last June. I started her on Doxy now just to see how she responds. Any thoughts.? Many thanks. Guest guest
My cairn terrier had what we thought was arthritis when he was 11 - very stiff read legs and lay around a lot and not his usually perky self. The vet didn't see any problems from routine bloodwork and put him on steroids for a couple of weeks. It helped some with the stiffness but he had digestive problems with the steroids and I didn't want to keep him on them long term. A friend suggested I try giving him some ionic silver. I put about 1/4 cup in his 2 cup water dish the first few days and he loved it. Then I increased it over the next couple of weeks to half and half. Within a few days he was feeling better and eating better, and within a week he was running around chasing the cat just like he was a puppy again. I'm convinced it was lyme since that happened the same time I got bitten - in fact at first I thought he was having sympathy pains for me. But he recovered completely within a month and never had problems after.  Carol Monroe ________________________________ From: Maurer/ <maryandkim@...> Sent: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 2:48:16 AM Subject: Re: [ ] Re: Lyme and Dogs thanks for replying. Guest guest
Hi, . Teasel can be used in conjunction with the doxy. If you can get a tincture, give 2 drops 3 times a day. Where are you located? Avena Botanicals in Maine has a nice tincture, but if you can find a more local one, local is best. If you want to try that with your 11 yr old, too, it wouldn't hurt. Even if she doesn't have a spirochetal disease, she shouldn't exhibit any adverse effects in those doses, . I like Japanese Knotweed, too, but that is even harder to find in tincture form. You can dose dogs with regular tinctures - although they contain alcohol, the amount that you are giving is small. [i'd be more worried about organ damage from Rimadyl!] If you have access to knotweed in your area and want to dig up a root, you can just grind it with a cheese grater into a tea and pour it over his food. For a golden, I would use about a tablespoon of root every night. As a canine herbalist, I do make a blend for dogs (Jap knotweed, teasel, cats claw, astragalus, etc.), but am out of stock right now - should have more in about a month. Guest guest
Should have added for human form. Is it used in place of knotweed? Why tincture instead of capsules? I've never used them before.
