Guest guest
Sorry I do not. I got my CD 57 higher by using MGC 5 . But it can make you very tired and is probably too much together with rocephin and MCS. Â Do you know that many people have gallbladder problems after rocephin? Â From: journeybeginner <arleneyogini@...> Subject: [ ] CD-57 results Date: Friday, March 12, 2010, 7:59 PM Â My first CD-57 test in 2007 showed a level of 26. Last year it was up to 42 in the spring (a short while after I started Buhner's core protocol), but I was showing no symptom improvement. After working on severe toxic mold issues, I finally was able to begin using Rocephin in November 2009, starting with a microdose (50mg, because of extreme chemical sensitivity) and gradually working up to 1g twice a week as of last week. My CD-57 has now dropped down to 30 again. Does anyone know why this would happen after a few months of using Rocephin? thanks!
Guest guest
> > Does anyone know why this would happen after a few months of using Rocephin? just a guess: rocephin, like many other ABX, has an anti-inflammatory action. Maybe this temporarily influences CD57 values? several scientific studies have found NO direct link between CD57 and immune activity (or disease symptoms). AFAIK the only convincing links are in the original studies from Stricker c.s. I think CD57 is an overrated marker. Also keep in mind that it is NOT specific for Borrelia, so it can also be influenced by other infections or immune problems.
Guest guest
Some people speculate that the abx cause the lyme bugs to go dormant so the immune system relaxes. Stop the abx, huge relapse occurs because the immune system has not been on alert and cannot ramp up fast enough. Maybe that's why there are fewer CD57 cells. deb > > My first CD-57 test in 2007 showed a level of 26. > > Does anyone know why this would happen after a few months of using Rocephin? > > thanks! >
Guest guest
I'm curious what happens when you take too much rocephin? I have this odd situation where all antibiotics I tried caused very bad facial swellling (though not visible except for some redness). It would press on the nerves in my face and be very very painful along with squish my ear cannals in so my hearing would be a bit worse. When the swelling is really bad it also presses on the nerve for the ears and I get ringing that goes away if I get the swelling under control. I started IV rocehpin this month and get the same reaction. However, If I use antihistamines along with a very slow 3-4 hour infusion I am able to tolerate the swelling and ear ringing that happens. I also itch a bit after the infusions and if I infuse too fast the itching increases. I test negative for allergies to rocephin and penicillins, but yet I still have a seemingly allergy type reaction that is tolerable as long as I take it slow. Also interesting enough despite having bart and lyme for 4 years and almost no treatment so far due to the drug reactions I feel 80% better since day one on the rocephin. I need to figure out what else we can do to keep me at this level when the rocephin is stopped. > > My first CD-57 test in 2007 showed a level of 26. > > Does anyone know why this would happen after a few months of using Rocephin? > > thanks! >

A real allergic reaction to rocephin resembles anaphylactic shock from a bee sting (strongly swollen face, mucosal areas, severe itching, sometimes hear failure etc.) and is very dangerous. I had that reaction in hospital after 10 days of rocephin, and after that had to take prednisolone (?) along with the rocephin to prevent the allergic reaction. In also had to use a slow infuse (in 5 hours instead of the usual 1 hour) to prevent itching etc. > Also interesting enough despite having bart and lyme for 4 years and almost no treatment so far due to the drug reactions I feel 80% better since day one on the rocephin. I need to figure out what else we can do to keep me at this level when the rocephin is stopped. most people feel a lot better on rocephin but fall back quickly when there is insufficient follow-up treatment. I suggest using a cystbuster in the last weeks that you use rocephin, and continue with oral ABX for at least a few months (but of course, always consult your own doc). Rocephin has some beneficial side effects (glutamate metabolism, anti-inflammation) that may improve your condition as long as you use it - however this is just fighting symptoms and does nothing to address the real cause. So this effect will disappear when you stop the infuse.
Guest guest
I am about to start IV Rocephin & even though I am only allergic to Flagyl (that I know of). I have a fear of an allergic reaction when I start the Rocephin. So even though you had the bad reaction, you are still using it? And the other person says they take benedryl with it. So give me some advice please. I plan on infusing with at least 250ml of Normal Saline. Thanks! -Sonya Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone with SprintSpeed [ ] Re: CD-57 results > I started IV rocehpin this month and get the same reaction. I have a fear of an allergic reaction when I start the Rocephin. So even though you had the bad reaction, you are still using it? I continued the full (6 week) rocephin treatment despite the allergic reaction, because there was no good alternative; I had serious neurologic problems at the time. I had to use a lower infusion rate and a small dose of prednisolone each time. The anaphylactic reaction did not occur again. Only one time they made a mistake and gave me the full dose in 30 minutes instead of 5 hours, which caused sweating, itching, tingling senstations etc. - but nothing serious, and it stopped soon after the infusion was completed. From what I understand this problem occurs more frequently with IV rocephin, but with the right protocol you can continue the treatment. This was long ago, I'm no longer on rocephin and won't try it again. It helped, but most of the gains disappeared within weeks and a got galbladder and some other problems as a result. P.S.: allergic to Flagyl, that is a bit surprising to me (not the kind of drug I would expect allergic reactin from). Are you sure it is allergy, or could it be that you are simply very sensitive to it? People are known to sometimes end up in hospital when they start with a full dose of Flagyl right away. I had a 'near-death' experience after two days on Flagyl. In this case (usually when people still have a lot of bugs inside) it is better to start with a very low dose. Guest guest
I too am interested in everyone's opinion that has had rocephin. I am supposed to get a PiCC line in 2 weeks. Please give advise as I am nervous about a possible reaction. How long before PiCC insertion should we test it. I am paying for PiCC out of pocket & would like to test before hand. My doc suggests 1 gram. But is it bad to get 1 gram & them have to wait a week or so? Thank you. -Sonya Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone with SprintSpeed [ ] Re: CD-57 results > > The doctor I was seeing suggested a test dose in his office before placing > the PICC line. Guest guest
> > How long before PiCC insertion should we test it. you can have an immediate reaction to rocephin but AFAIK this is very rare. I don't think the 'classic' 10-day allergic reaction will occur if you just take a single dose (and wait up to two weeks or so to see what happens). The reaction requires a buildup of the immune response, which will probably take several days at least (just a guess, I don't know any details about it). My suggestion is: if you or your doc thinks you need rocephin, just go ahead with the plan but be prepared. Make sure you recognize the signs and can respond quickly to an allergic reaction if it happens. The first sign is usually a quickly increasing warming/tingling sensation in the veins, quickly followed by itching and swelling in the mucosal areas (lips, nose etc.). I would not try this at home without somebody else present.
Guest guest
17 days worth so far for me and still tolerating it. For magnaging werid reactions like mine you may need to make sure you use and IV bag too and not push syringe as I would never be able to infuse it slow enough to tolerate for me that way. I usually start with a drop every 4 seconds and then slowly speed it up over time and end with a drop every 1.5 seconds for the last 30 minutes. Somehow that keeps the reaction down. > > > I started IV rocehpin this month and get the same reaction.
