Babesia for me meant ALWAYS low thyroid levels + low ferritin levels, so I always needed supplementation. My need for it happened in a matter of days in the second infection!!! In the first infection, I felt sooo weak, and when I realized what was missing, it was a bit late, so it took much longer to 'fix' things. Until babesia disappeared I had to keep supplementing these two things, since then I'm on zero of these two supplements (except for iron because it's in my mineral pill combo). Guest guest
Thanks everyone for all the info on thyroid and iron as pertains to Babesia. I have both issues also, plus the Babesia. I will report my blood tests next week when they come back. I am interested to see also where my WBC/RBC is. I have found Lugol's iodine helpful and have never taken thyroid meds even though they were prescribed for me in the past. I was on a compounded steroid for my adrenals, but quit that also a few months ago. It seems as this infection is treated over time, my hormones are starting to come around, but it's a slow road this way. I can't take medicines due to allergies to ingredients, plus a lot of supplements. But there are definitely herbs to treat these things too. Does Babesia tend to effect iron and thyroid more than lyme? Love, Jnanda
Guest guest
Jnanda, it happened to me twice in the same pattern! Two babesial infections I got were very similar, only separated by 2 year interval. Low ferritin: when too low, I needed iron injections every 2 months. When I knew I had lack of iron, I started oral supplementation. Iron supplements that fit to the body are not very easy to find (a bit like magnesium, most supplements don't 'match' our bodies for a reason or another). Iron too, I realized (I got quite a few I threw away). When very low ferritin, only the injections make an almost immediate effect. Oral supplmentation is too slow when you suffer from very low ferritin levels. When not that low (above 25-30 or so), oral supplementation helps (according to my duck). And it worked for me like that. Once I knew I had babesia and that most people with babesia suffer from low ferritin levels, I continued oral supplementation and never needed the injections again. But in my experience, until the last of it was here with me, I still needed iron supplements. I also supplemented with bits of homeopathic iron in the beginning, to help absorption. As for the thyroid, only iodine didn't do the initial work... I needed thyroid sarcodes in homeopathy (I guess, it's part of thyroid gland very diluted). Somehow, most people with babesiosis have low T3 levels. I took these thyoroid sarcodes together with iodine (either by skin, or by ingestion), and then it worked. Again, like iron, I needed supplementation until the last of babesiosis was gone. When babesiosis disappeared, so faded the need of supplementing iron and thyroid sarcodes (but I still supplemented with iodine through skin, very unexpensive products one finds in the pharmacies). Until lyme was gone, it still 'tested' for a few weeks, now I guess my intake of sea food is enough for it as it never tested anymore... Hope this helps!
