Guest guest
I just open up capsules and put the contents into juice or mix with a little sugar and water, depending upon which child I am giving the stuff to. Guest guest
Hello, Yes I soon got fed up capsulating, even the andrographis. So I did a bit of experimenting with my electronic scales . As I am on maxium dose I measured in teaspoons, medical plastic 5 ml ones. 1 flat teaspoon of Jap knotwood weighs of as 1/3 of my daily dose. about 1.8 gram 1 heaped teasppon of andrographis (slightly lighter ) equals 1.8 gram. So after a bit of practice weighing it a couple of times I got a good idea in teapsoons of dry powder. Now I just throw all my powders together mix with water. Takes a few minutes before it absorbs , stir the paste and I have my horror paste ready, nice and quick. Gulp it down and eat a piece of fruit or bread after. I havent got the time to capsulate for hours. You will soon get the hang of your doses Best wishes Helga. --------------------------------- Answers - Get better answers from someone who knows. Guest guest
Me too, sometimes too lazy to encapsulate.... I don't take cats claw though in water (awful taste and it doesn't blend!...). But I'm enjoying stephania and astragalus in water! I use no scale, nothing, just muscle tests. The mix tastes fine, so far! Guest guest
My thanks to those who replied. You're right, Helga: i was a bit frantic initially, but with some more experimenting today to figure out teaspoon equivalents per dose and double-checking with my scale, i've pretty much got it down now. I'll still make up some caps for emergencies and travel, but this method certainly does save a lot of time and money -- not to mention all that wear and tear on my poor capsule-weary throat! (I still have plenty of other pills and capsules to swallow. . ..) The only issue i see is that, with each new batch of herb i get, i'll need to check on the teaspoon amount, since i suppose there could possibly be some variations in density from batch to batch. Guest guest
Hollis - I didn't respond earlier, because I tend to be lax in measuring and weighing as for me the exactness of doses isn't something I've been concerned with as time goes by. I basically assume most of the time I am getting about one gram in a 1/4 teaspoon of most herbs, and when I put them in 00 caps, I am getting 600-800 mg of herb. I too have capsule fatigue, plus herbs are so inexpensive but taking a lot of capsules is not. I take as many herbs loose without putting them in capsules, it is so much faster and I seem to be more regular in my doses by doing this and saving time. I do capsule aloe and khella for sure. There is no way I could stomach esp. aloe. I have a scale also and have used it in the past. If I get real curious I might weigh and check things out, esp. when I am working with a new herb.
