Currenly I don't use anything except maybe two 1-gram knotweed pills daily. I'm planning to use Eleuthero again next month. I am thinking of beginning the Buhner protocol after 12 months of ABX (including 4 months IV ceftriaxone + Biaxin). I had to discontinue ABX (MD insisted) because of weight lose and fatigue. Four months later: still can't gain weight, much less fatigue but neuro symptoms: ear ringing, mild vertigo, tingling & mood instability are still a problem. I think the ABXs have destroyed all the beneficial bacteria in my gut and, as you suggested, probiotics aren't going to be enough to grow them back. My gut is constantly gurgling (no pain) and full of gas, weekly loose stools. I had lots of deep itching (especially inner ears & chest, but migrated other places) after about 6 months on ABX and it has taken 3 months of strict candida diet to deal with it. I still occasionally get itching in my inner ear which leads to fatigue & neuro symptoms flare up. Possible inflammatory response? What specific benefits have you gotten from the Buhner herbs? Because my GI tract is so unsettled, I'm afraid to even try them. I don't have an LLMD or ND at present.

But even three years after the last ABX my gut still doesn't work normal (cramping, gurgling/bloating, irregular stools etc.).I'm not eating glutenfree and carbfree because it is difficult to stick to such a regimen, and I'm not overly sensitive. But I eat pretty healthy, compared to the average person. I have had a coating on the tongue from when I started oral ABX, and have not been able to get rid of it. Maybe one day I will try the 'diluted bleach' treatment, but I'm not going to swallow like the MMS people I also have a strange ear problem that comes and goes and could be an infection. Vertigo and tinnitus problems that were severe right after ABX are nearly gone, fortunately (thanks to knotweed, IMHO). I had very little fatigue problems during ABX treatment (I remember I was about the only lyme in the hospital without crushing fatigue). for me that started long after the ABX and months of Buhner protocol. I plan to battle this problem again soon with Eleuthero. > What specific benefits have you gotten from the Buhner herbs? Because my GI tract is so unsettled, I'm afraid to even try them. I don't have an LLMD or ND at present. I had severe vertigo (everything was turning around, had to lie on the bed for hours a day sometime), this disappeared in a few weeks when I started with knotweed. Most of the other symptoms like joint/muscle pains, nerve tingling, fevers, bad food-poisoning like episodes etc. have gradually improved on Buhner protocol but they are not completely gone. I don't think Buhner protocol had much influence om my gut (or my bladder for that matter, it still doesn't work like it used to). Maybe there was a little discomfort in the first days. But I remember some others on the group had serious gut problems when they started Buhner. Maybe in my case there was nothing left to destroy ;( I'm stil underweight (63-64 kg before lyme, 55 kg in my worst Lyme days, now 60-61 kg which is too low for my length. I'm guessing this is because my gut is still not functioning like it should. So to sum up, Buhner helped me significantly, but it didn't help with all the lyme symptoms.
