Re: which herb is causing loss of sense of taste?

My guess is that it is the andrographis. I know of a couple of LD

patients who were affected that way. Also watch out for the AB

Biaxin. That AB only caused me (and a few other patients) to have a

horrible metallic taste in my mouth 24/7. But I do know one patient

who totally lost his sense of taste when taking it, and it took months

for it to come back. Others also lost their sense of taste, but it

came back after stopping it.

Good luck figuring it out. Everyone's body is different and we react

differently to herbs/meds.......

Peace, Terri

I forgot to mention that a zinc deficiency can cause impaired sense of

taste & smell, so you might try taking some zinc and see if that helps

your taste come back. The patient that I mentioned who totally lost

his sense of taste, was put on zinc supplements by the physician.

Hope that helps.

Peace, Terri

When I first started andrographis, I had a very, very 'odd' taste in my

mouth all the time for several weeks or more (its been too long ago so

I don't remember how long it lasted). All food tasted nearly the same

because of it. However, it did eventually go away. I have no idea why

that happened; in asking others, one or two others talked about taste

differences though they didn't sound like mine.

It DID go away even while I stayed on the herb andrographis.

hmmm, very interesting. The same thing happened to me several months

ago but I never figured out what it was. I thought at first it was due

to one of the non-Lyme related Rx's I was on. But I never was able to

connect it to anything. I will check back in my records to see what

herbs I was taking.

I'm not a chef so it was just really annoying and frustrating. I could

taste salt if I heavily salted things, garlic, and some sweet things

like the vanilla in the vanilla ice cream I shouldn't have been eating.

I'll let you know what I find in my records.

Do you know which herb or herbs it was causing this? Did you continue

the herbs and your taste came back?

I stopped taking the herbs and can taste somethings sometimes,

vaguely. But I am more tired and clumsy so feel that the herbs were

working, but now I am afraid to take them. Anyone have any

suggestions for others I can try with no taste-loss side effect? I

need my sense of taste for my work--chef. Thanks.

Did you ever get all of your taste back? If so, how long did it take? I've

lost mine and it is awful. I stopped all of my herbs in hopes of it coming

back. No luck so far.

My husband lost the sense of taste during Buhner's protocol. It was a year ago.

Nevertheless he continued Buhner's herbs and got improvement after adding

Artemisinin. He was nagative in B.Microti IgG test, but he tried Atremisinin to

check reaction. It helped him to recover his taste's sense, but it came back

very slowly, firstly all tasted salty (salty chocolate - could you imagine?),

finally after c.a 2 months all food tasted normally.

A few months ago I advised taking Arteisinin to one woman, who had the same

problem. She added Artemeisinin and Elecapane root powder to her treatment and

improved on it too. I don't know, if it's Babesia or other parasite, but I thing

the problem isn't in Buhner's herbs.

Can you be sure that artemisinin returned the sense of taste, or might it have

been just what happens to some as they continue taking andrographis?

I'm experiencing the same loss of taste. Ironically, it only started when I

started taking zinc and selenium supplements along with artemisinin and black

walnut hull. I've stopped artemisinin and black walnut hull because it was

wreaking havoc on my gut. I'm not sure whether to continue with zinc and

selenium, because all the books suggest these help bring the sense of taste

back. I started taking them because it was my understanding that they helped

with sugar cravings. Those have definitely stopped, along with food cravings in

general.
