Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place....so I guess I shouldn't push to have LD recognized here cuz it obviously isn't any help at all, just more reason to kick us to the curb!! the situation is bad almost everywhere. Almost all developed countries base their guidelines on the US IDSA garbage. The scientists that advise our CDC etc. work very closely with Wormser, Steere, Klempner etc. so what can you expect ... Only in some countries that are said to have a bit outdated medical systems (like former Eastern Block countries) they take LD more serious. I also see some good research starting now from countries like Brazil (they have 'LD-like disease'). Of course our own medical systems are the ones living in medieval times, when it comes to LD ... The Dutch Lyme patients organisation managed to get a petition to Parliament, asking their attention to the problem and trying to change things. The petition got delayed for a few months because of premature elections and now the waiting for a new government. I don't have high hopes for what comes out, because we have a strong IDSA-style lobby here just as well. But apparently our version of the CDC and some politicians are getting worried by now, because of all the noise in the press and complaints from patients. They 'need to do something' and maybe we can use the momentum to make some changes, like pushing for a bit better guidelines, an LD expertise centre or pushing scientific research in the right direction.
