Guest guest
Children are not treated with Doxycycline for Lyme. Amoxicillin is what's usually prescribed for acute LD in children. Does he have symptoms which could be related to Lyme, besides the rash? [ ] My son may have been bitten by LD tick on Wednesday My 8 year old son has developed a bullseye rash on his arm with a white center. My wife has chronic Lyme already and is understandably freaking out. She just got back from the doctor's office. Of course, they are not sure it is Lyme and think it is MRSA or staph infection? She asked that they start him on Doxy and they said no because it can cause problems with 8 & under children and it stains their teeth? She asked about Amox and they said no because it would not work and would make the staph worse? They gave her a Abox cream and told her to use that until the labs came back...this all sounds like crap to me. Shouldn't he start the Doxy right away? We all know the elisa test is garbage also. The only lab that may come back to solve any of this would be the staph/MRSA test I guess. My wife's LDD has not returned her call and has no email to send a picture. His office is 3 1/2 hours drive away. Not sure what to do??? Suggestions??? Thanks,
Guest guest
: Personally, I would go to a dermatologist immediately with your son. Augmentin or amoxicillin are the two choices for 8 and under. Dont ask demand that they treat him. What will two weeks of antibiotics hurt while your waiting on results from mrsa and other infection. Might sound crazy but I know people where I live (Texas) who have resorted going to their vet for doxy for the children because pediatric doctor wouldnt give it. Why take chances of long misery of chronic lyme.
Guest guest
make sure you take a pic of the rash to document and do anything in your power to get antibiotics in him asap. Guest guest
Hi - I echo the others - he needs abx immediately - can you get him to a Lyme doctor? www.lymenet.org/flashdiscussion/seekingadoctor has LLMD referrals if you need any. - Robin Re: [ ] My son may have been bitten by LD tick on Wednesday make sure you take a pic of the rash to document and do anything in your power to get antibiotics in him asap. Guest guest
If he were my son I would have him on Amoxy (not doxy in children due to teeth discoloration) for at least 6 weeks past last symptoms. That's the guidelines of ILADS (www.ilads.org) Or I would use CS for this period, this is actually my first choice as the CS has been effective in helping my wife get her Chronic Lyme into remission. www.lyme-resource.com You can lead a person to a fact, but you can't make them think! - > [ ] My son may have been bitten by LD > tick on Wednesday > > My 8 year old son has developed a bullseye rash on his arm > with a white center.
