Guest guest
Intense muscle spasms are one of my worst symptoms. They are most frequent in my legs and feet, but I've had them in my hands, back, throat and sides as well. I've had to return to using a wheelchair (post-stroke I used one for two years and had stopped) because the spasm can catch me far from home and leave me stranded. I compiled a list of what I've tried and what's helped in case others are dealing with this, too. Taking magnesium, strangely enough, seems to make it worse. I've tried many forms and dosages including cream, homeopathic, IV , powders as well as various pills. (After the IV I had cramps for two days.) I take cofactors like B6 and taurine, but they don't seem to help with the magnesium issue at all. Skullcap tincture-- one of the more effective acute remedies--5-8 droppersful. Pedicularis-- sometimes works great, other times not-- 3 droppersful at a time, repeated as needed. Lobelia-- very small doses to avoid nausea-- I take 3-4 drops at a time. Homeopathic hypericum (St. swort)-- I take 6 C 12 C and 30 C and different potencies help at different times-- there's often a lot of burning and tingling with the cramp. This one is often very effective. Heat-- I use hot water bottles. Valerian-- I use Gaia phytocaps. Not getting enough sleep is a major trigger for the cramps, but they also seem to just pop up spontaneously.
