I have seen a few research articles but they seem inconclusive or way that transmission seems very rare. I'm suspecting that I got my first Borrelia infection (or coinfection?) from a flea bite in the garden ten years ago, some years before I got an EM with obvious Lyme symptoms after a tick byte. I'm not sure it was a flea bite because I haven't seen the insect, but it caused a very intense itch like most fleas do (and ticks don't, at least not in my experience). The flea bite left a strange dark colored nodule in the skin a few mm in size that is still present now. According to a dermatologist it is probably an encapsulated insect byte (probably some part of the insect is still in the skin ...). Quickly after that I got symptoms like recurring fevers, gut disturbance, heart problems, hair loss etc. These problems gradually disappeared after about two years.
