Guest guest
My first thought is that your child is having a herx reaction and to lower the dose. I've no experience with this response though. Also when you say " full dose herbs " , how old is your child and are you talking about an adult full dose? Connie [ ] Any of the herbs ototoxic? Anyone have thoughts on this? I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks-- Mira [ ] Any of the herbs ototoxic? Wondering if any of the herbs are toxic to a child? My child just started experiencing ringing in the ears--something not experienced since prior to abx treatment (abx cleared the ringing within a week or two when treatment first started)--so I'm wondering if this is due to " stuff " being stirred up again by the herbs, or if one of the herbs is ototoxic? Herbs taken so far are Eleuthero and Cat's Claw at full dose, and Knotweed--just recenty added in the knotweed. No ringing until Knotweed was introduced--literally that same night the ringing started--have lowered the dose now but wonder if I should just stop it--it is supposed to be a very good herb though so would be discouraged to take away any of the possible benefits.... (She is still on abx treatment, so maybe the herbs are interacting with the abx? I believe that Buhner has stated that taking the herbs with abx is acceptable.) Thoughts? Thanks, Mira
Guest guest
Hi Connie, Thank you for your reply. By full dose, I'm meaning full dose for a child's weight--in her case per Woodland Essence, 3/4 dose of what an adult would get per Buhner's book. She's using tincture, so she's doing 11 drops of Eleuthero in the a.m. and at lunch and 11 drops of Cat's Claw 3 x per day. She seems to be tolerating these well. When we added in the Knotweed, I started her at 5 drops 2x per day. The ringing started that night. I dropped her down to 2 drops 2x per day, and she still had the ringing. So today, I stopped them and will watch her for the next couple of days to see if the ringing continues or goes away. Now I don't know if it is the Knotweed, all of them together being too much, or what........... I'm hoping too that it is just a herx reaction, but she has never herxed on any abx, just gotten better. She was upset that the ringing came back, since she hasn't had it since prior to diagnosis and treatment with the abx. It scared her because in the beginning we would be up all night together because the ringing was so bad. When that went away with abx treatment, we were all so happy to see that she was finally going to be able to get a good night sleep again without the annoyance of the ringing. I know abx can be very ototoxic so was just worried that the herbs can be too and maybe I shouldn't be adding these herbs to her protocol--just that she has plateaued on the abx, so I want to eventually get her off those (have always hated having her on them to begin with) and switch completely to herbs--now I'm just worried. I believe I read that Planet Thrive is on vacation now until April, so I really don't know who to ask about side effects from these herbs. Buhner's book doesn't list ear problems as a side effect, and generally I would think that herbs are fairly safe at the proper dose--but I really don't know. Thanks again for your help. I appreciate you reaching out! Mira Re: [ ] Any of the herbs ototoxic? My first thought is that your child is having a herx reaction and to lower the dose. Guest guest
I believe ear ringing is a common symptom for many infections. I have a little ringing from time to time. It usually helps if I do yoga (stretching) concentrating on my neck and back. Has she stopped eating gluten and sugar? I think it's hard for us to except that we won't just " feel better " as we heal. Sometimes we will feel worse while we're healing. But, some herbs aren't right for everyone. I have a very strong response to Knotweed as well. So, I'm waiting a while before I try that again. I'm getting better very slowly and I'm not taking that many bug killers. I think it's as important to help the body by detoxing as much as possible and feed it very well with lots of great supplements. And remember that we all tend to have cycles so it seems like suddenly your worse again. I have one bad week, one better week, and one even better week, to be followed by a bad week, etc... It helps if you can follow her cycle on the calendar it keeps you from freaking out as much. Every six weeks I have a really bad week! This has happened over and over to me so I can plan my life around it and keep from getting discouraged. I compare the bad week to the last bad week, not to my good week to see how I'm doing. Go with your instincts! Give a hug and kiss to your daughter from me. You're doing a great job mom! Connie Re: [ ] Any of the herbs ototoxic? Hi Connie, Thank you for your reply. It usually helps if I do yoga (stretching) concentrating on my neck and back. Has she stopped eating gluten and sugar? yes, it is a common problem. There was a medical programme about this issue on TV recently, and they stated that almost 20% of the Dutch population suffers from this (more or less ...). There are many theories about the cause and many 'treatments' (including some recent ones like implanting electrodes in the brain to produce a counter signal in the auditory parts of the brain ...) but none of them proven in double-blind testing. But it is a fact that MANY of these treatments work a bit, there seems to be a strong placebo effect for tinnitus treatments. I had it very strongly after stopping a year of ABX; it gradually faded when using Buhner herbs, and recently has started again (maybe because I stopped the Buhner herbs some time ago?) although in a milder form. Guest guest
a recent study posted on one of the groups mentioned Pycnogenol (which is pine bark extract) as possibly helpful with tinnitus. If you do a search, you'll find many hits discussing this. The downside is, it is just one more supplement to take... deb > > > > > > I believe ear ringing is a common symptom for many infections.
