Guest guest
" There is also some research regarding people with HLA-A antigenes (I think this means bloodgroup A, not sure though) being more likely to get Lyme. The bloodgroups also have some relation with race, and according to others there is some relation between bloodgroup and diet (diet recommendations). " This is very interesting to me as I follow the Blood Type Diet (as well as the Geno Diet now). I'm a B+ bloodtype. But the other two Lymies I know on the Blood Type forum are A's. Guest guest
Hi, I'm European and my blood type is A-. I'm currently taking abx for Lyme. Doctor was curious if I was bitten as a child in the Pyrenees Mountains. Jeannie Re: [ ] Re: other co-infection? Blood type? Guest guest
O positive. that said, I'm not sure I would have ever guessed 'lyme' from my symptoms until an intuitive suggested I get tested, as they are mild compared to what I hear from many people, and diffuse. I do have the HLA types associated with autoimmune issues from lyme though. From: wilson33@... Date: Tue, 7 Sep 2010 12:24:15 -0700 Subject: RE: [ ] Re: other co-infection? Blood type? Guest guest
> I do have the HLA types associated with autoimmune issues from lyme though. ? I never heard about HLA / autoimmune markers associated with Lyme. There is some research in that area, but most of that seems highly speculative . Was this an official medical diagnosis? Guest guest
The last LLMD I saw checked my HLA type. Basically, she is of the mind that lyme has a lot of different 'shapes' on it (antigen receptors I think she meant, or antibody receptors???), and that some of them also look like EBV, other viruses, etc. And then, some people have an HLA type where the 'shapes' on your own cells are similar to some of those on the Bb cells, resulting in exacerbation of the inflammation you are already experiencing. The treatment is nothing beyond what you already do to kill the Bb and reduce inflammation, and she thinks it settles down as the infection is managed. So, it's interesting info/interesting idea, but I don't know if it means anything in terms of therapy. From: tek0nik@... Date: Wed, 8 Sep 2010 09:04:46 +0000 Subject: [ ] Re: other co-infection? OK, this is probably about the HLA-type markers for Lyme arthritis that Steere etc. are researching lately. From what I remember, if you have these markers the Bb infection is far more difficult to clear in the joints, so the disease process is chronic (for Steere this does not prove that Bb persists, although they cannot prove it is auto-immune either). Probably only applies to Bb ss, the American flavor of LD.
Guest guest
I don't think HLA-A antigens have anything to do with the ABO blood type system. HLA stand for human leukocyte antigen. These antigens are found on all nucleated cells of the body. Red blood cells are not nucleated. HLA stand for human leukocyte antigen. These antigens are found on all nucleated cells of the body. Red blood cells are not nucleated. thanks for correcting, you are right. But I still wonder if there is a statistical correlation. Blood group A has a statistical correlation with European origin, I guess there are similar associations with various HLA antigens? I found several articles online about statistical correlation between these two marker systems for various diseases, so the same could be true for LD.
