What lab should she get him tested through in a couple of weeks? testing is of little value if you have used ABX. You need about two months after an ABX test before you can do a reliable serologic (blood) test. Also, normal blood testing is of no use in the first weeks after finding the tick. You could use PCR testing at an earlier time, but I have the impression that a good Borrelia PCR test is very difficult to get in the US. Personally I'm not in favour of using ABX without any sign of infection, and would only use them if there are clear clinical symptoms of Borrelia infection (like EM, fevers, other unusual symptoms). If you are sure the tick has been feeding for a long time, like more than a day, that could be an extra reason to use ABX. > I have been told I have lymphoma, hep c, sarcoid, scleroderma etc. and seen more physicians than one would think is humanly possible. I have been tossed around from sub speciality to sub speciality (due to multi organ involvement and I have yet to get any relief or answers. unfortunately this is normal. The average chronic lyme patient sees an average of ten specialists or so before getting the right diagnosis; it's the same story over here in Europe. Of course this also means many patients will never know they have Lyme and never get rid of it. > So, if anyone has any extra time and can help me understand how to start introducing herbs, etc, I have very little knowledge of the homeopath approach and my mind is so foggy lately, Before starting the Buhner herbs: buy and read the book! There are some updates on the basic protocol that you can find on Buhners website and on hise Planet Health pages. You don't need to read everything, but there is lots of important info in the book; it is good to have it at hand when there are unexpected events. You can combine the Buhner herbs with ABX; just start out slowly. If you are really 'foggy', have someone help you with choosing/buying the herbs and taking the right dose. Guest guest
Hi - your friend can go to www.lymenet.org, sign up there, and make a post in the SeekingADoctor section, also listing the state in the heading and people will send her LLMD referrals immediately. You could also sign up there and make a post in Medical Questions and get some feedback on your questions. - Robin [ ] Child with tick inbedded in his neck Hi, I am new to the group, I have had lyme for over ten years, with possible reinfection last year (according to id doc) and I have so many questions to ask this group myself that I have been overwhelmed with where to start. However, this is an urgent matter. My best friend found a tick inbedded in her eleven year old son's neck last night. SHe brought him to her pedi and he said he would not give antibiotics, so she went to another Doc this morning who is going to give her son a two week course of amoxcillian. Is this the right drug? Should it be a longer course? What lab should she get him tested through in a couple of weeks? We are in the Boston area? Does anyone have some other tips to help him avoid the curse of LYme disease? Thank you in advance to all of you! I would also like to add that since I joined this group a couple weeks ago, I have felt less alone in the isolation of this disease. I have been told I have lymphoma, hep c, sarcoid, scleroderma etc. and seen more physicians than one would think is humanly possible. I have been tossed around from sub speciality to sub speciality (due to multi organ involvement and I have yet to get any relief or answers. I have taking ceftriaxone for four months, doxi, dr. donta's protocol with biaxin and malaria drug and I am still so sick. So, if anyone has any extra time and can help me understand how to start introducing herbs, etc, I have very little knowledge of the homeopath approach and my mind is so foggy lately, To the other Dory, my family calls me that too Thanks and good health to all~
Guest guest
i have heard that if you save the tick you can send it to www.igenex.com and they will test it for lyme. do not know if a fee is involved. Even if the tick has Bb infection, you don't know if you have been infected because statistically, that takes a long time. And in some countries like my own, tick Bb infecton rates are so high in certain areas (like 20-40%) that even if the tick you test does not have Bb, you might have overlooked another one that probably was infected. Better to assume all of them are infected in such a case. Another issue is that recent research shows that some of the tick tests only detect a certain minimum amount of Borrelia in the tick, e.g. when there are at least 10 or 100 of them. But just one Bb is enough to get infected, and if the number was relatively low to begin with and the tick has been feeding for a long time, most of the Bb may have moved from the tick to the patient and escape detection in the tick test. Guest guest
I am going to disagree on not doing abx. I live in the Boston area and depending on where you live the rates of infection can be very, very high. When we found an embedded tick on my daughter we did 6 weeks of abx. The doctor wasn't happy but I brought him the Burascano protocol & he allowed for 6 weeks. If you or your friend is interested, I compiled a list of lyme friendly doctors (not all MDs) in the Boston area. I'd be happy to forward it to you. Just send me a private email.
