Guest guest
-Joanne: Wow, I forgot about costochondritis until I read this. I had it a 'hundred' years ago when I lived in MA. I had just put the little one down to sleep, my husband wasn't feeling so well and I thought I was having a heart attack. Didn't want to bother him, so I asked him to watch the kids and I drove myself to the hospital - LOL the one thing they tell you not to do. However I never told him I thought it was a heart attack. When I asked the dr in the ER how I would have gotten costochonditis, he said, " you must have a virus. " I got that feeling again a few more times and just assumed it was another virus. The only autoimmune I had at that time was hypothyroidism. Never heard that AI was connected with it and obviously neither did the doctors in the Framingham, MA ER! Thanks for the info. Normally this disorder will go away on its own. When associated with an autoimmune diseases such as PBC, it may linger for years or a lifetime. > >
Guest guest
Has anyone experienced Costochondritis, inflammation of the cartilage in the the breastbone? If so where there any specific herbs/supplements that helped to eliminate the pain? I am currently on the Buhner core protocol and the pain has subsided a lot since I first began, but it does flare up and cause discomfort. Thanks, Tim
Guest guest
I'm sure I have this as well because I've had a lot of pain around my breastbone. I tried to get the doctors to tell me what was in that area so I could figure out what was causing the pain (before I knew I had Lyme). I used to put ice on it all the time which helped. But, since I've gotten a bit better I don't do that anymore. I guess I don't do anything for it except lay down or if it's so bad that I have heart involvement I take pain pills. So, I guess I'd like to know if anyone is having any success with this. Connie [ ] Costochondritis Has anyone experienced Costochondritis, inflammation of the cartilage in the the breastbone? Guest guest
If you're confident in the diagnosis, then I'd check out what kind of exercise you're doing and see if it is pulling a muscle on the ribs? It's an inflammatory thing...so try some of that ThiolNAC! If you're NOT 100% happy, see a cardiologist!I'm working on that calcium analysis. I think it may suffer from some serious selection bias (aside from the fact they ignored studies that included vitamin D). The population most seriously affected and studied were women in their mid- to late-70s, many who had had a previous fracture. One study showed no benefit for Ca alone -- but that was from intent-to-treat analysis that included a large proportion who were inconsistent in their use of the Ca. Those who were more adherent had stat sig outcomes/improvements, at least in terms of bone density.Outcomes tend to vary based on whether you are looking for z-score or bone density improvements versus fracture rates.Anyway--that's just off-the-cuff stuff. I'm hoping to have some time to dig into it shortly.Hey, quick aside to you (or anyone)...what's the story with hyperprolactinemia among HIV+ men? What helps to manage it? (I realize a proportion of those with this disorder also have auto-antibodies to prolactin....)Anyway, thoughts appreciated! On Nov 12, 2010, at 9:23 AM, nelson vergel wrote: Has anyone experienced sharp pain close to the heart when you breathe or move a certain way? Guest guest
, I bet it's a restriction of your thoracic spine, it can refer anteriorly. You might try rolling back and forth on a foam roller. Let me know if you need further instructions. Guest guest
, I'm assuming your doctor has ruled out cardiac issues, and even more certain that you've read up all there is to read on line about costochondritis. It is pretty sharp pain. For all, a description: xhttp://www.mayoclinic.com/health/costochondritis/DS00626/DSECTION=symptoms JB
Guest guest
Thanks to all that replied to my email. High doses of ibuprofen are working. Its interesting that these past 4 weeks have kept me from regular gym visits due to travel and it coincides with this problem. Have a good weekend, everyone!
