Guest guest
Hi Kim, When I had the C Difficile Clostridium (full name) it started with a very gassy stomach, and it rumbled a lot, you could feel it churning. Then the loose bowel movements started slowly, then as time went on, it slowly increased and became chronic. I was on ABX's for a dental infection, they were all part of the mycin family. All ABX's that end in mycin are known culprits of C diff. if your good flora in your GI tract isn't strong, the C Diff can surface. The Dr's treating me failed to tell me that (it's also highly contagious, you can pass it onto others as well). Now whenever I'm on ABX's, I take several different strains of probiotics 2 hrs. before any ABX's. Also, a low sugar diet is very key, so I stay away from alcohol, white rice, white bread, sugar, etc. I was down to 90 lbs.in the hospital 4 times, and bed ridden for 6 mo's and it took me 1 year to get my strength/muscle tone back. It's very important that we educate ourselves, a lot of Dr's out there can't see outside the box, and won't change their way of thinking and unfortunately, we suffer for it. Since I got the C Diff my Lyme Disease of 12 years ago surfaced with a vengeance and brought FMS with it, so I got rid of the C Diff. and now am fighting the Lyme/FMS and can't seem to put it back in remission. It's funny how one thing can trigger a whole host of things, it's like pulling 1 brick from a house and it loosened the foundation and the whole house fell down. Amazing how quickly the house can fall and how difficult it is to rebuild. Hope this info. helps others who are taking ABX's to be very careful. Wishing everyone lots of healing thoughts! I take a powerful probiotic called Ultimate Flora Critical Care 50 billion at about 10 p.m. every night. I take Azythromycin (with food) at 3:30 pm and Mepron at 8 am & 8 pm. What are the warning signs of developing C diff other than diarrhea? I have developed some mild gas since starting Azythromycin & Mepron. I avoid sugar & refined carbs (low carb diet), and no alcohol. Kim
Guest guest
actually ALL abx ( and even antiinfective herbs) can provoke an attack of CDiff and blaming the Mycin types are a bit misleading. The trick IS keeping the flora balanced. You should take your probiotics 2-3 hours AFTER and not before the meds since they are killed by the abx as well. You may want to try Kefir--its a great source of usually 8-10 probiotic organisms, as well as protein and calcium since its a yogurt type drink. And its more reasonable cost wise than many of the products. Some Drs suggest taking a probiotic dose after every meds dose, others advise at bedtime to replenish overnight. In any case you shouldnt take too high a dose at once; even " good " bacteria can overwhelm an already stressed GI system. be well Finette
Guest guest
Any experience here with C Diff? I'm unsure whether I'm dealing with C Diff... But just out of curiosity is there a non-abx treatment for C Diff?

Guest guest
A recent study found that people who were low in Vitamin D3 were more likely to have this problem. There are 2 tests for Vitamin D: 1,25(OH)D and 25(OH)D. The correct test is 25(OH)D, also called 25-hydroxyvitamin D. It is the better marker of overall D status. I have found that the herbs from Raintree are good for many intestinal problems when all else has failed. You could contact them to see if they can recommend something that would be eeffective for C Diff. http://www.rain-tree.com/rtmprod.htm Good luck Sandy C Diff Has anyone had any experience with C Diff? It's a nasty intestinal bug. I've been diagnosed with it and have been battling it for 5 months with antibiotics and probiotics to no avail. I was wondering if any kind of enemas or colonics would help. I would appreciate any information. Thank you in advance.
