BUHNER HERBAL PROTOCOL FOR TICK DISEASES Healing Lyme (Natural Healing and Prevention of Lyme Borreliosis and It's Coinfections) book by Harrod Buhner, Master Herbalist, 2005 THIS BOOK IS A MUST! www.planethrive.com (Lyme and co-infections) book updates, Buhner questions and answers column, herb sources and much more www.gaianstudies.org book corrections, protocol updates, list of protocol practitioners ( is no longer accepting clients) / on-line support group www.publichealthalert.org/Articles/scottforsgren/Buhner.htm very good update and thorough review of protocol with recommended amounts and projected costs. LYME CORE PROTOCOL: JAPANESE KNOTWEED-Polygonun cuspidatum-Reservatrol (wide spectrum antibiotic, anti spirochetal, antifungal; anti-inflammatory, synergistic with other herbs and antibiotics, immune modulating): Tablets—1-4 daily. Powder—8-16 00 caps divided in 4 doses, for 8-12 mo. Maintenance-1 tablet, 3 times daily. Source Naturals Resveratrol 500 mg tabs. Capsules: Woodland Essence or 1st Chinese Herbs powder (encapsulate yourself). CAT'S CLAW-Uncaria tomentosa: (anti-arthritic; raises CD57 levels): 1-4 caps 3-4 times a day. At maximum dose of 16, take for 2 mo, then reduce to 2-3 caps 3 times daily. Buhner suggests taking 20-30 min before meal on empty stomach. Raintree Herbs, 1st Chinese Herbs, W.E. (ANDROGRAPHIS from the original protocol mentioned in the book is no longer recommended. ASTRAGALUS, also part of the original protocol is not recommended for late stage Lyme) BARTONELLA: JAPANESE KNOTWEED. See above. BONESET- Eupatorium perfolatum-(Exceptionally usefull in both babesia and bartonella. Stimulates immune system, normalizes CD4/CD8 ratio, protects and stimulates bone marrow macrophages. Reduces fevers): May be taken as tea or tincture. See p. 187 of Healing Lyme for recipe. 1st Chinese, W.E. RED ROOT-Ceonothus americanus root-(clears lymph congestion, good for liver and spleen): 30 to 90 drops 4 times daily. (If not strong enough, use Poke Root under advice of health practitioner). 1stChinese, W.E. BABESIA: CRYPTOLEPSIS- Cryptolepsis sanguinolenta: ½ tsp. 3 times daily of tincture for 60 days.
